there are two possibilities when launching a game:

- starforce
- no copy protection

and even starforce fails on non-laptop systems.

oh... and there is the HL2 method. does anysone know wether it has allready been cracked?

i think the success of oblivion is to a great deal caused by the brilliant internet marketing they had. remember how everyone drooled over the AI while in reality, the AI is far from being spectacular?

Every game will be cracked, there's no way to stop it. The only ways to get people to buy games is,

1. Make a great game that people want to play.
2. Give it a reasonably secure Multiplay interface, like Steam or Punkbuster.
3. Make sure the game is properly supported. ie. patches, updates and expansions.

All this sofware security is a waste of time and money. With the internet the way it is today, hackers and people who use hacked .exe's, ect. have a vast network to share information very quickly. This ultimately results in games being copied and cracked within days of their release.

Yeah, you can simplly copy the decrypted files (which is what steam does) off another PC, or just use a friends steam account to play the game on your computer.

If it's so obvious, explain the resources wasted on shit copy protection every year. Beacuse it's not so obivous to some people if software keeps coming with this crap. Today's internet has made it so easy to steal software, that most types of security are pointless. When all someone has to do is download a hacked .exe to replace the original, the excuse that hacking a game is to complex for the average person is about as vaild as your captain obvious comment.
