Any more pictures of Angkor Wat? It's a fucking shame the Khmer Rouge had most of the old temples destroyed.

I only spent 3 days in Cambodia, we were only there to see Angkor. In all honesty I didn't really get a good impression of the place. We staid in a town called Siem Reap which is built specifically for the tourists to go see Angkor. This was a touristy town yet still the poverty was incredible. We hired a taxi driver for the 3 days we were there who spoke quite good English, was a post-grad student but was forced to drive a taxi because his father was dead, mother was in hospital and his brothers and sisters would starve without his support.

The more we drove around Siem Reap the more you could just see how little the government gives a shit about it's people. The only places making any money, for instance massive 5 star hotels in the middle of a street of slums, were owned by foreigners so none of the money goes into Cambodia. Apparently this is common place throughout the entire country. There are also amputess everywhere.

At Angkor itself you get swarmed by hordes of women and children literally screaming at you to buy things, and they are incredibly relentless, it happens the entire time you are there. One time when I was having something to eat I gave a group of about 8 children $5 AUD just to leave me alone.

As for the pedophilia I have no doubt it goes on there, as there are a lot of signs telling you sex with a child is a crime etc, but I didn't see any evidence of it in Siem Reap.

I enjoyed Angkor but I won't be rushing back to Cambodia in a hurry.

My girlfriend took about five thousand pics of Angkor but none of them are on digital. Yeah so many of the temples are in ruins, it definately is a shame. Next to every Buddha has had it's head removed to be sold.

Nice pics. That ruin with the faces etched in it is cool.

Speaking of Cambodian photo gallaries, I found this set on dpreview and thought it quite good:
