does anyone know a good app for renaming lots of files?

I need to truncate lots of MP3s that I have since they have very long file names and I think thats why my car mp3 player can't read the CD. Anyone know an application that will do a batch rename, but keep the order of the files? I know Photoshop can rename files, but it messes up the order.

can't you just left-click + drag to select them all, then right click on the last one

rename? or does it need to be something less crude

you could write a batch file to do it.

or just go to the dos prompt and do an 'ren' for each and every file.
that's what I'd do.

irfanview is an image/video viewer, but has a batch rename in it as well.
