Photo website overhaul
The picture seems fine to me.
But then again I'm not a connoisseur of fine gymnastic pics so I'd err on the side of whatever average normal person had to say if they walked through the door and had a bad reaction. tnf is pretty average and walked through that door and didn't like it. So I'd listen to what he said. I wouldn't listen to what foo said, though, because he might be average but he is definitely not normal.
But it looks like teriba has updated his site to make this a non-issue again.

The colorscheme is right.
Alignment of elements vertically is broken by just a few pixels on each element... this one is an absolute CUNT to get right, I've run into it before. IE and FF will render various items a few pixels different, and unfortunately the vertical lines play a major part in the visual flow.

what a carry on, the gym photo is fine, kids in gymnastics do heaps of cool stuff, that photo shows some of it, there is nothing sexual or weird about it at all,
all respect to tnfs kidney stones etc but having a kid in gymnastics and other friends involved, I cant see anything to be concerned about - if it was a zoom shot of her groin, then yeah theres a problem, but its a well balanced pic....
edit the crabbing photos look sus tho, theyre plastic crabs arent they!!!

"Liberty, what crimes are committed in your name."
personally I would remove the borders except for those perhaps around the lower table with the 3 columns and for those I would choose normal style borders, like non-dotted/ slashed
also, I would stick the distribute the links in the menu evenly so that it spans the entire row
also, why dont extract the EXIF data from the images and show it to the visitor?
dont want to give away your tradesecrets?

The image was taken off the main page, guys.
DMMH: I prefer mike's version. The dotter borders look great, but perhaps merging the individual cell headings and contents together would reduce the total number of them - they are a bit overpowering in such high numbers.
EDIT: Almost forgot, 'Click for Mountain Magic Photos' blends in because it's white on a white and black mix. Perhaps the main theme red heading color and slightly thicker, larger type would make it visible? Also, the image itself could have the dotted border removed and sized up to fit in with the borders surrounding it, and it would still fit with the theme

dotted borders are so 1990's, but hey, each to his own

Also your moon shots, try taking one during one of the phases, you'll get a much more interesting picture.. not like I need to tell you though... Here's mine from a couple weeks ago..
And one 100% crop from the other day.

In regards to the type on "Click for Mountain Magic Photos'" I'd just add a 1px border in black in the photoshop type layer and it would pop a bit more then it does now..
So do you have to have model releases for all these people you sell pictures of?
How'd you setup the selling backend?
I'd also seperate your personal photos from the selling ones.. make it a subsite for your family and friends as it distracts from the greatness of the 'for sale' pics.. IMHO..

I'm going to come up with something better for the click for pics text later, probably go with the red or orange.Dek wrote: In regards to the type on "Click for Mountain Magic Photos'" I'd just add a 1px border in black in the photoshop type layer and it would pop a bit more then it does now..

I don't have model releases, but I try to make sure that I only sell to the parents/family of the competitor or the competitor themselves. I know that this isn't ironclad, but if I'm ever sued I'll just claim bankruptcy and move on. I incorporated my business for this very reason. I'm also moving to a situation in which I do have model releases but it takes a LOT of prior planning with the event people.
Selling backend consists of a pretty nice customer management system I wrote. Shows me all of my orders, e-mails people automatically on order received and shipped dates, tracks financial data, updates their order status pages, etc. It's pretty cool
Still working on the event/personal separation. It used to be completely separate, but it was too much of a pain for my friends so I joined them here. I'll try to figure something out to de-emphasize it even more. Maybe move the link somewhere else on the page and out of the nav bar.
Thanks guys.

The pic looks awkward. It's nothing about the general gymnastics shots.S@M wrote:what a carry on, the gym photo is fine, kids in gymnastics do heaps of cool stuff, that photo shows some of it, there is nothing sexual or weird about it at all,
