Google would be an awesome place to work. They've got a perfect working atmosphere IMO. It seems to be, "Just get the job done well and you'll be allowed to do pretty much anything else. This place is your home." I like that.

...and you can bring your dog to work. That's fucking awesome!

Geoff is right though. Lots of companies used to be like that. And then the efficiency consultants came in.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but that's the way it goes.

Some companies remain independent and profitable, so they don't need to hire 'efficiency consultants' and do other such things. Look at id software.

It's usually either businesses that are in bad financial shape, businesses with greedy executives, or businesses that have been bought by a larger company that wind up facing those sorts of things.

Of course, with Google being public, theyd have a whole new set of financial responsibilities which are only going to get bigger and bigger, so who knows...

oh and i have already heard stories about google culture going to shit...

dell used to be just like that(well almost) and when i left it was a fortress of fear, loathing and hate...
