Which makes me wonder... either the stats on LCD/CRT are wrong (LCD being 60Hz by default) or many more people than I ever thought are oblivious to the wonderful benefits of running at a higher Hz.

You know, there are still a ton of people that are just the 'turn on pc, start game' variety, meaning they only tinker with a minimum amount of techical whizbang, just enough to get by.

I think one can gauge a general idea on the types of specs people run on a variety of games, not just Steam (in a sense that the people that play on Steam, probably play a ton of other games too). For instance you can see that Nvidia is crushing Ati with their dual core chips. 3000+ Nvidia sli users vs. 50+ Ati crossfire users... I bet this stat is similar across other games too. Shad care to defend Ati on this one? :p

And I stil use a CRT, an LCD would be nice for space reasons but the CRT is good quality wise.

I think the simplest explaination for that is that ATI's solution has come far later to market and there's a lot less boards out there for it. At least at the moment.

I think the most interesting thing is that more people who participated use Server 2003 64-bit than any other operating system besides XP.

sli has been around quite a bit longer than crossfire. really though who cares about sli/crossfire. i have a hard time keeping 1 high budget card in my comp never mind two.

ati's new cards are solid. it's only a matter of time before they start gaining back market share they lost against nv.

ati needs to take a lesson from sony/nvidia pr. more aggressive bullshit like tactics. seems alot of people fall for hype regardless if it's true or not.

ps. sli is not dual core, there is two gpu's on two cards.

When I looked at the average amount of RAM, free disc space, and refresh rate, my conclusion was that the average gamer is still one of two things:
1) too young to buy their own equipment
2) computer illiterate

Since a lot of the people that have taken the survey are CS:S players, I'd have to go with 1).

actually, i would go with both of bitwise's choices..

i persioanlly play the odd time, and it is EXTREMLY annoying to listen to 12 year olds talk on the mic like they are king shit in the game.

At one point, a dude was full out yelling at someone, and you could hear his mother in the background yelling at him to shut the computer off and go do his homework... that was gold.
