Young earth, maybe, but the Big Bang theory is less scripturally problematic when compared to a steady-state theory.

i'm not religious, but who's to say that the big bang wasn't how god created everything?

They're free to believe that if they choose. As I was hinting at earlier, an eternal steady-state universe may seem more scripturally threatening for Christians. Whereas, by comparison, the Big Bang may be less existentially troubling for them.
