No feedback... no. That was the icing on this cake.

Quoting this specimen:One of these days before I die, I hope to see a shift in the attitudes of so many of my black brothers and sisters in this great country we share, from perpetual victimhood, to pride in their achievements on the road from slave to American citizen.

With critical press it's gonna be hard i think. You'd need some influence over that too, be able to push some stories and sink others.R00k wrote:The only things neccessary in order to control a country, are being able to manipulate the media polls and the vote count. The rest simply depends on a good political game.

That's pretty much the plot behind Killer7.R00k wrote:The only things neccessary in order to control a country, are being able to manipulate the media polls and the vote count. The rest simply depends on a good political game.

That's true, but the ability to control media polls has to assume some level of control over the media in general.Ryoki wrote:With critical press it's gonna be hard i think. And part of the political game is marginalizing the remaining media that is critical.
Oh no, my post was not hypothetical at all. It is not even in future tense.
The question is, with a fairly cowed population, if everyone actually believes that there is this invisible majority in the hills somewhere who support what is happening today, then it would become perfectly possible for government leaders to do whatever they wish for the most part - what a powerless feeling everyone had after the 2004 reelection. Not many at all these days have the constitution to fight for what seems a hopeless cause, after all. And our country was founded on the idea (or so everyone believes), that if a majority of the population supports an agenda, then by definition it is a mandate for the government to advance that agenda. How can you oppose such a mandate, and claim to be a patriot?
It would also make it very easy for the Executive branch to coerce Congress into voting for its interests, instead of the interests of their constituency. After all, why would a career politico cater to the interests of those who had no control over the votes?
Man, I bet a President wouldn't have to use a single veto his whole term if he could find himself in a situation like that.
