what sort of timeframe are we looking at for vista?
My sister's setting up a business and has to get legit software for her computer, including an OS, is it worth buying XP when a new OS is just around the corner, or do we have another year or so before a final proper release?

You don't pay any attention to the cutting edge, especially for a business just 'setting up'.phantasmagoria wrote:My sister's setting up a business and has to get legit software for her computer, including an OS, is it worth buying XP when a new OS is just around the corner, or do we have another year or so before a final proper release?
Hell, if it were any cheaper I'd suggest rolling out a few copies of Windows 2000.
Copied of XP Pro should be obtainable for ~150 quid a piece on scan/overclockers or such.
I think they'll force it out by then if it isnt done.. the head of the windows group wants to retire and MS's credibility can't afford another setback. I've been running it for about 3 weeks at work and it's getting close, but you can see how a lot of the fundamental new security and UI changes are getting in the way of old apps.booker wrote:vista will be out in Nov. or so they say

Right, I reccomended she get XP now, I was always going to reccomend she get XP, it's what she knows and what she feels comfortable with. What I was thinking about more was that if Vista was going to be released next month or so, they'd start flogging XP at cut down rates and she should be able to pick it up much cheaper.
