I'm rapeing cablevision for all they are worth since they are telling me I need to get a cablebox to continue my premium channels. I squeezed out of them a High Def dual tuner DVR, 180 more channels, music, and I/O digital cable for on $12.00 more a month.

Now they are telling me that I can get 15MB down and 2MB up. I look and it's available in my area, but my Motorola SB4100 has a 10MB output.

ME: "Can I get a new modem to replace the one I have had for years so I can take advantage of this free speed upgrade?"

Tech: You do not need a new modem for this

ME: "your wesite says I do after running a line test I have a 10MB modem and need 100MB to take advantage of this"

Tech "Let me run a diagnostic pleas hold"

Tech: "sir I just tested you are getting 2mb upstream and 15MB downstream your modem is fine

ME: LOL

ME: "where can I go to pick up my new modem... or are you going to ship it over to me?"

it's frustrating how companies feed you all this bs. for instance. i recently took my car to the subaru dealership here and asked them how much a new clutch setup would cost me.

Them: "well for starters you're looking at, at least, $750 for the new clutch. from the sounds of it your flywheel is pretty shot too so you're gonna need a new one which will bring your final cost up to about $1200."

ME: "can't you resurface the flywheel instead of having to buy a new one?"

Them: "no it's a special kinda flywheel that the WRX uses and it's impossible to resurface."


so i decide to go my local cottman transmission. i only spent $850 and i got an upgraded clutch and they *gasp* resurfaced the flywheel! the dealership would have givin me another shitty OEM clutch. the dealership just didn't wanna deal with the flywheel because the dont have the equipment to resurface it in their shop and dont wanna take the time to send it out somewhere that can...oh and they woulda made a pretty penny off of me too. fuckers.

First they tell me that I need to get a rent a set top box and upgrade to digital cable just to keep my current channels.

that's $18.00 a month more just to keep what I currently have. Then they tell me for $14.99 more a month they will give me what FIOS is offering.

So yes I was a little pissed that my perfectly working Windows MCE box is now useless unless I rent 2 Cable boxes.

Yes I am a little angry that they are charging me for a service offered by their direct competitor for much less.

they are rolling out the fiber in a few weeks. Once they are installed I will switch to FIOS internet and Fiber TV and save about $40.00 a month and get 30mb down and 5mb up.

Untill then I deserver my free shit for 6 years of service with no support calls and no perks

You have optimum online right? Just go down to the Cablevision walk-in center and pick up a free loaner. You'll probably get a Motorola SB5100, SBV-5120 or a Webstar, all of which work fine at both the old and upgraded speeds. In most cases, you will have no problem with the exchange. You may also want to ask for a receipt stating that you now own the new modem being you purchased the original from OOL.

Also what kind of speeds are you getting, there is a chance a new modem will not change anything

I bought the modem from eBay so I will see if they just give me a new one. I'm getting 10mb down and 1MB up and have been for years.

They just upgraded my area so I should now be getting 15MB dowm and 2MB up.
