watched the extensive gameplay footage - i guess the gfx are good, but just looks like a glorified and pretty hacker/slasher.

I feel like i'm missing something here...

maybe it's coz nothing seems as cool as Will Wright's Spore.

I enjoy three types of games: action, creative and immersive. Quake3 fits the first, a game like Spore fits the second, and (hopefully) a game like Oblivion will fit the last.

interesting - i guess if the RPG elements are complex enough that it isn't mindless hacking away...

From what I read the combat is real time and non gay. Mouse1 swings your sword and mouse 2 blocks with your shield. Thats why I'm gonna try it.

Julz, it's not really about combat only. Watch these chapter videos narrated by one of the developers, they explain the gameplay mechanics: http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/media_movies.htm

I thought your skills and shit decided if you hit and block. In this you hit and block if you time it right, no matter your level.

I think it's going to be the same, with upgrading weapons and whatnot

In the 360s defence, Quake 4 was coded by a two year old monkey with a wrench on the 360. It runs shite all the time.

Prey so far looks to be 60FPS constant, maybe more, its just a bitch getting the engine to work on it.

And UE3, something which is a shit load more better than the doom engine, is running smooth as silk all the time on the 360 build of Gears Of War. I think they were having a bit of trouble when there was a few hundred of those bat things onscreen where it dropped to like 45, but other than that its all good.

Remember, the hardware itself is amazing. And ATM they are using less than 33% of the unlocked power of the system. For £200 thats AMAZING.

Like any RPG, your skill improves over time and you get better armor 'n shit, bonding with your character 'n shit. It's single player only. I'm not a big fan of RPGs, but the graphics have so wowed me over that I'm gonna give it a shot. The only thing that will stop me is if reviews come out saying it's shit 'n all... but I think that's unlikely.
i would hardly call it your "typical" rpg. this game is so dynamic its insane. you can create your own class (if youre not content with the 15odd available classes), you can create your own spells if youre adept enough, you can give special properties to your weapons which make for an unlimited amount of items.

also this game doesnt depends on 'drops', which is good :icon14:. its also impossible to become too strong to early, since the 200 dungeons adapt to your level. its impossible to walk into a highlevel dungeon too early and get a sword thatll kill every enemy in 1 blow for the next 30 levels.

cant fucking wait :@

I had a serious morrowind habit; although TBH I've not seen anything in the trailers for oblivion that matches the great design they had in morrowind, all seems a bit generic

horses, man. horses! :)

i personally think its improved a lot over morrowind, especially with all that rai going on.
to me most of the npcs in morrow were overly generic =\ and some of the quests felt a bit gimmicky and didnt work that well

Yeah, the AI was pretty lame in Morrowind; I'm more talking about the great architecture designs and different moods in different parts of the landscape - like the first time I arrived in Ald-Ruhn, right in the middle of big dust storm, I was blown away by the look of the thing.

well they havent shown anything more than parts of the first dungeon and the first city, so we really cant tell whats in store for us (part of the reason i cant wait). we know there is a snowy landscape, and ofcourse the fiery pits of oblivion..

The Wired preview is a bit worrying.

In particular, this was one of the most irritating things in Morrowind:
At some points, I keep seeing the "Loading Area..." message pop up every couple of seconds, which brings with it another framerate stutter.
I'll hold off for a while I think, see how it pans out.

other previews suggest theres about a 2 second load each 2 minutes or so. thats not including cellloads ofcourse. im guessing itll be ok. it better be, i already paid for the collectors edition :D

also none of the other previews and handson talk about the popin this dude talks about. they do mention the lowres textures mipmapped in the distance though
