Hmmm, in the first one you can see the lod is a bit rough farther down the road, but it shouldn't take away from the overall experience regardless I think. :o

It's your typical RPG. You're placed in a very large world where you travel around and complete missions 'n shit. Like any RPG, your skill improves over time and you get better armor 'n shit, bonding with your character 'n shit. It's single player only. I'm not a big fan of RPGs, but the graphics have so wowed me over that I'm gonna give it a shot. The only thing that will stop me is if reviews come out saying it's shit 'n all... but I think that's unlikely.

Not yet.

I can't help but think Sony would clean up if Planetside got launched on it.

Planetside would be a wicked game to play on console. A MMORPG version of Halo would be cooler though. I'd like to see a MMORPG world domination campaign though that actualy evolved you know? You would just be one soldier/officer in the war on either side. It would be cool if there was actualy a winner at the end. It's too bad it'd be too tough to make since people could be playing both sides.

woot bought (pre-ordered)!!

I think they learnt a big lesson with LOD and distance culling with Morrowind as that can be a real hog if you're not careful.

hm - those graphics don't impress me - i think it's coz they focus too much on foliage and don't give me a sense for the other aspects of the engine.

anyone got any different screenies?

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

Pretty much because I'd hafta shell out $1000+ right now to get it to play in any decency on pc, as opposed to $300-400 on a 360. :p

Really?

XB360 here is about £300
The cost of a new motherboard, processor, graphics card and RAM capable of running all games on the market *at the time it's purchased* is about £300 as well.

If we're gonna get outside of personal situation, the cost of an xbox plus television is equivalent to a decent PC if not a bit more.

that price to get a setup capable of playing ALL games on the market? You won't get a PC that plays all the games no the market with a decent framerate and detail level for that price...

personally, I'd much rather play an RPG sitting on the couch, recliner, or the gaming chair in front of the TV instead of a monitor (although I really do love my sony LCD).

Okay, lets say a budget of £300, and to give myself a basis, that you already have a PC and are performing an upgrade, not buying a whole new unit (after all, this is the most likely scenario).

Asus A8V-MX uATX S939 AGP K8M800 DDR400 Integrated VGA SATA2 Raid 6Ch Audio Lan USB2 - £39.07

AMD Athlon 64 3000 + , Socket939 , Winchester , 1.8 GHz , 512KB Cache - £95.53

256MB XFX GeForce 6800XT PCI-E SLi HDTV Dual DVI Out/TV - £97.47

1GB (2X512MB) Corsair Value Select PC2700 (333) Twin Pack 184 pin DDR Non-ECC Unbuffered CAS2 - £56.27

Job done. That rig will run all the games out right now and for at least 12 months into the future with no performance issues. Total cost ~290 quid. And that bought us surround sound, raid, sata and dual monitor options if we want them.

A lot of people seem to get stuck on the notion that once they start speccing up a PC, nothing but the very best components will do. It's bullshit. Much like 20% of hard work yeilds 80% of the results, the cheaper end of the PC hardware lines are absolutely fine for basic gaming needs. People seem to get really badly hung up over squeezing the other 20% out of top-end components and paying through the arse for them, as well as feeling the need to own PC hardware which will only actually be necessary 2 years down the line, by which point they've AGAIN upgraded to a generation beyond what's needed.

That makes sense but then you hear of stories of people that can't even squeeze 30fps out of Quake 4 or any current given game with a setup just like that. I guess when it comes down to it though some people really have no fucking clue how they should be running their systems and don't know the necessary steps of keeping it in tip-top shape.

I wouldn't mind going with a setup like that but I'd be suprised if it can run Oblivion with full eye candy (minus aa/af maybe) with a solid 60fps. 12 months? I dunno, something tells me Unreal 3.x powered games will have those type of specs as a bare minimum...

Yeah UE3 will be an interesting thing to see develop when it hits. Worth bringing this back to the consoles parallel though. Quake 4 runs a bit shit on the xb360 too, certainly not a constant 60FPS throughout and from the limited play time I've had on it it ran like absolute shit at some points in the SP.

It sure does look impressive. Unfortunately, Bethesda appears to be getting in bed with Microsoft more and more at a time when I'm going in the opposite direction. Sad.
