I just got these in the mail. I'm almost regretting having accepted an invitation to a poker game on saturday night.

How is Galactic Civ 2 btw, is it turned based and does it improve at all over MOO 2?

I don't understand the appeal of turn-based games.

But do you just find it tedious to have more control over gameplay?
Do you enjoy a stricter enforcement of the gamed details, or believe it makes it a more even playing field?
I'm comparing them to RTS's.
I played a lot of Risk, and Axis and Allies when I was in school and loved them. But when PC RTS games like Starcraft and AoE came out, I never looked back. Playing turn-based games on the PC seems dull to me by comparison.
I guess they are a different type of game - playing across the whole world with countries as chess pieces. But on a smaller scale, RTS games are the same thing.

Not until i shoot first.........
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

i understand your point but I think that the finer elements of gameplay which differentiate turn based and realtime strategy games make all the difference.
Also, there is a huge swathe of society out there that doesn't factor the pressure of a time-bound game experience as enjoyable. As you mentioned, Chess. You couldn't have the kind of dynamics which chess features if it were real-time. Thus they are very distinctly different game experiences.
