Nomura admitted freely that, should he find the time once all of his current projects are completed, he would like to take the mouth-watering Final Fantasy VII tech demo for PlayStation 3 and turn it into the complete remake for which fans of the original have been clamoring for years.
from the horses mouth, yet no official announcement.
theres still hope \o/

I dont mean to sound like a prick here, I want this as much as anybody but lets face it... a game like Doom 3 thats boring as shite and short as fuck, takes years to make. The FFVII Tech Demo was higher detail, and about 97billion times the size of Doom 3...
So either this would take years to make with a massive staff base, or it would be cut to shit...
So, we have to give them 3 odd years to sort out current and soon to be future projects, and then another few years to make the game at least... Your looking at an end-of-its-life- PS3 title...
So, either it will be cut to shit, or not... Either way we are gonna be waiting a LOOONG time no matter what the choice he makes...

That's right, because everything always happens in the worst case scenario. God it must suck being you.

The id team is much, much smaller than squareenix's though. If/when it does get remade, you can pretty much guarentee a large proportion of the team will be on it. They at least have the story/chars/script/etc in place, and that takes up as much time as anything else. Its mainly just a shitload of artwork and programming to do. Maybe some voice acting too?

I just dont sit there and believe everything thrown at me. I see the facts, not the hype. I want a FFVII remake as much as Donney, but the chance of it happening "quickly" with even a 60 man team is VERY unlikely.

Half the process of development is already taken care of though. Albeit updating the graphics is a huge overhaul, it would be exagerrating just a bit to claim it would take that long. Plus, the PS3 isn't out yet, and noone knows when it will be out.
also keep in mind that while the ps3 tech demo was real time, that wasnt a "whats to come" demo. so they might make a remake but that doesnt nessesarily(sp ) mean its going to be like what we saw in that demo.
Doesn't matter about the hardware we can guess the basics of the game from the tech demo. Remember it takes weeks to make a single model, none animated, using the latest tech.
The only reason i'm even stating this is because a lot of people seem to think its like making Quake 4. Its not. FFVII was slightly bigger than HUGE, and if it was to be of the same quality as the tech demo, it would need a lot more build time than any game ever before.
How is it? I'm stating an obvious bloody fact. No bashing, no "PS3 sucks" crap that you all love to hear. Its simple obvious comments.
FFVII Would rock if it gets remade, but would take forever. Either it would be cut to hell, or not look anything like the tech demo, or take forever to be released... Either way, its more likely that it could fail, due to the shear size of the game.
that doesn't mean i dont want it. That doesn't mean i think it will flop. That just means that its gonna be a right pain in the arse to make and will take longer than probably any other game ever, so just dont expect it xmas 06.

not really, im sure ive pretty much made the whole debate a moot point
TBH what you said holds a good point... It was never supposed to be "played". In that sense, they could of had a 800,000 polygon mode lfor cloud and STILL have got the video looking smooth. Because its not interactive they dont have to account for 90%+ of the things they would normally have to do, hell, they dont even have to account for whats behind the camera there. Thats why theres such a huge jump between "tech demo" and "real time game play" visuals, its just because even though the tech demo is possible, its jsut never gonna happen in real time.
That said, the FFVII tech demo wasn't amazing... I mean, it was good, it just wasn't blow your socks off good. So it COULD be possible...

What about games like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion? That game is huge and has major improvements in just about everyway that you can think, and its slated for 3/20. It was made from scratch, and it'll be in stores just when the average gamer has the hardware to run it.
o'dium wrote:Its nowhere near as huge as FFVII was, and you know it Plus, its been in development for a good few years, its not just started production last week.
So lets say about 2 years to make. Take that, add it to the delay of his other projects, and then you have MORE than two years...
Once again, expect it if you want from what he said, i hope to god he DOES do it, but just dont expect it any time soon at all.
I'm not saying I'll expect it to be released anytime soon, I'm saying that it won't take as long to make as you seem to think. Yes, FFVII was huge, and I know Oblivion has taken years to develope, but that's because that game really is huge, in every way. FFVII will only need graphical updates. Think about it.
nah noone said it would be out soon. they wont even start "soon". he just said he'd like to do it someday, but before he can he has to get all the current projects "out of the way".
btw saying that oblivion is not nearly as big as ffvii is a bit off. oblivion is effin huge and prolly has a bigger rpg engine behind it than ff7. what with the custom classes, weapons and spells n all. not to mention the 200 dungeons on top of the 16sq mile landscape. i think its even bigger than guildwars, and guildwars is definately bigger than ff7 (although ff7 is more varied)

Not to mention the physics engine, all the graphical improvements, and its coming out for PC and console.
