PS3 officially delayed
That's hardly official then innit? 'Possible' and 'Unamed official' leaves some doubt. Sony will probably have a shortage of consoles @ launch and won't be able to make a worldwide release (def. won't be a sim. release in Europe like with 360).
I just wanna know when it launches in Japan, then mebbe the US release won't be that far off. Hopefully E3 will give some answers, and mebbe the Jap. launch will be in the first-half of this year

from a business perspective, its better for the company to release a better games for launch (when thinking about this delay). but for us, who cares?o'dium wrote:Im sorry but i disagree.Eraser wrote:TBH that's kind of naive. I doubt a delay of the console will guarantee better release games. Most consoles launch with a pretty poor game lineup and most have been delayed as well.o'dium wrote:That is quite a way off... But remember, with a delay this long, the launch games will be much better, unlike the unfortunate rush tripe pick of games the 360 had. No matter how good the 360 was, nobody can say the launch games are amazingMarch is gonna rawk for 360 owners.
If the 360 had launhced in March, the games would feel a lot more polished, a lot bettre, and there would be more of them.
what did we get?
CoD2? Wow, I play it on my pc anyways.
Quake 4? Wow, Activision wanted it out for launch so the frame rate is awful and the MP pointless.
King Kong? Ohhh, the xbox game with fancy paralax mapping running at 10FPS.
Need For Speed? Oh wowie, the most boring game ever, now more yellow.
The 360 had Condemned, Kameo and Project Gothem... That was pretty much it. But even those have flaws. Condemned has some bad frame rate drops, Kameo is the same and lacks online MP and PGR3 was quite a big buggy...
A delayed launch window would of been better for them, you cant disagree, its just obvious. The only thing that wouldn't be better is the timing, and a christmas rush is the best time. But they also never had the stock, and thats seriously hurt them, with it being a world wide release.
All the games people want for 360 are coming soon. Dead Rising, Gears Of War, Huxley, Oblivion etc etc. Gears Of War and Halo 3 will be the nearst "killer app" games the 360 has coming out. But those are a bit off yet.
so far, on the PS3 side of things, most of its just poor. MGS4, which is the same stuff again only now a little prettier (Sorry its not THAT amazing to look at). Unreal Tourny 2007 which hasn't even been confirmned as a release game by Epic, but Sony are saying it is so dunno about that one. killzone 2, which nobody has seen yet, because it was all faked video. The Getaway 2, which looks seriously under par, but its on a large scale so thats fine. Tekken Next which is gonna just be Tekken, but we haven't even seen how it looks. And MoH:AB which has had a lot of shots released, all of which are either "in tiny writing" concept shots, or ingame shots which the 360 can do easily.
So, a delayed release for the PS3 could give them the edge they need to get some GOOD and BETTER games out. Remember this IS sony. If you thought the 360 launch was bad you haven't seen anything yet. They NEED some better games, and a delay will do that.
who cares about launch games (from a game player perspective)? fuck it. i want to just play good games at a given time. look at it this way--what games do you think would have a chance to be better:
(1) youre a designer, your games will come out in november of this year. ps3 will come out in november. consumers dont know anything about the PS3. developers dont have much experience with it. the market isnt very well defined. you really dont konw shit about whats going on or whats going to happen.
(2) youre a designer, your games will come out in november of this year. ps3 is already out or about to be out. you know a LOT about what exactly the machine is. what it can handle. everyone knows about the architecture details yadda yadda yadda. market is better well defined, etc. etc. etc.
now, im not sure how much of a difference it makes. but i think it makes some. perhaps someone like jackal can clarify some more. either way, please explain to me how number 1 can POSSIBLY mean that we are playing better games in november than number 2.
also, this is a random note, but i think the PS3 will launch with mediocre games no matter when its released. they will not be super mario world, soul calibur 1, mario 64 or halo 1 IMO.
You know, a lot of people want to be dazzled with polycounts and textures.o'dium wrote:Then ill just come out and say it. I hope to damn the Revolution wins. Its the only console not trying to dazzle people with polycounts and nice textures, but with decent innovations and fun.

With the cost of the console, the cost of the games, the cost to produce the games and the console, and the fact the system offers infinite new ways to play and not just the old game pad method, plus the fact you have thousands upon thousands of games at launch...Jackal wrote:You know, a lot of people want to be dazzled with polycounts and textures.o'dium wrote:Then ill just come out and say it. How can it NOT be a winner? Becaues tis nintendo? Dont make me laugh, the DS owns so hard it makes the PSP look like a battery powered slide show....

I didn't say it wasn't going to be good. I said there will be no winners. There will be 3 consoles from 3 different companies and all will be successful. The landscape is not going to change from what it is today and if you think otherwise your dreaming the dream.

Although the "Hub" name does not appear in PSM magazine, editors have been shuffling around development sources looking for details.
One source mentions, "Sony is dead serious about this. The company has declared a full on assault on the latest version of Xbox Live. They are committed to matching Xbox Live feature for feature, and then some."
PSM also goes on to talk about how the PS3 and PSP will both use the so called "Hub" service, and how the system is being set up as a portal for Personal Video Recording TV content (PVR) as well as for music, games etc.
The development source adds, "There are so many more PS3 games being worked on than people realize. We got our final development hardware in January and it's even faster than we were expecting. We're going to have a lot of fun throwing stuff into our game world and trying to get the thing to slow down."
Other key points:
* There are alot of games being worked on for it right now in the US (alot more then what people know about)
* The final ps3 dev kit is alot faster than they thought (according to the developer).
* The ps3 will have an itunes type service to let you download HI DEF movies, music, etc.
* The Ps3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further.
* PS3 will serve as a location free player for the psp, means you can watch the dvd's that you have in your psp on your psp (from anywhere in the world), or any other video files you have on your ps3, though this is still only being planned.
* PSP will be able to send its files straight to the psp from anywhere in the world, and it can also control its DVR functionalities.
* Firmware updates will add more functionality, much like with the psp.
* The Blu Ray Player functionality doesnt cost as much as a stand alone player because the Cell and RSX can take care of alot of the stuff the ps3 will need to do to be able to read the disks.

what is now exactly? i thought PS2 was "winning". unless youre talking about profits or something (i heard that only nintendo makes a profit? dont know how true that is).Jackal wrote:You know, a lot of people want to be dazzled with polycounts and textures.o'dium wrote:Then ill just come out and say it. Ok, in terms of sales I'm sure there is a "winner". However, from a business standpoint all three systems are successful and profitable. The same thing is going to occur with the next generation. We're still years and years away from having one uber console.Chupacabra wrote:what is now exactly? i thought PS2 was "winning". unless youre talking about profits or something (i heard that only nintendo makes a profit? dont know how true that is).Jackal wrote:You know, a lot of people want to be dazzled with polycounts and textures.o'dium wrote:Then ill just come out and say it. Yes but does it play GAMES?Jackal wrote:Although the "Hub" name does not appear in PSM magazine, editors have been shuffling around development sources looking for details.

The PSP does a lot of stuff, but as a games machine its way worse than the DS.
As far as horsepower goes, this guy from Sony who was FIRED said himself the 360 is actually slightly MORE powerful at games. The PS3 will be better/faster at multimedia. This landed him in hot trouble with sony, who still continue to lie.
Anyways, like I said, the PS3 is doing everything, but how much of it does it do RIGHT? I dont want a tivo box. I dont want to download music and movies to my HDD and not buy the proper dvd. Etc etc... Why should i pay for it?
The 360 is a games machine, not a multimedia machine. It plays games, its amazing online. Thats about it. I couldn't care less about other things im not going to be able to use or dont want to, so WHY should i pay for it?
The Revolution looks to be the bare bones games machine, cheaper, but great games, and i love that. Thats how it should be done. Games machines NEED to be games machines. Not some multi media hub that controls everything in your house for gods sake.
Oh, and i would LOVE to see an 8gig DVD film stream to a PS3 from a PSP. That sounds REALLY fun. Much like how we can play the PS3 game son a PSP? (Sony heads own words, not mine. Dumb ass).
In short ,believe all the sony hype you want.

seems like there are some typos there? if i understand correctly, you can watch the stuff from your ps3 on your psp and that itll be sent to your psp from anywhere in the world.Jackal wrote: * PS3 will serve as a location free player for the psp, means you can watch the dvd's that you have in your psp on your psp (from anywhere in the world), or any other video files you have on your ps3, though this is still only being planned.

how does that work? itd be a bitch to download a 5 gb or whatever file onto your psp, if its even possible. itll take a long time. i doubt it can even be buffered. psp doesnt have that kind of power. unless im misunderstanding the whole thing, sounds like a lot of BS.
also on the power of the devkits, i thought it wasnt too much more powerful than xbox360. atleast thats the impression i got from kojima's comments. im not saying that whoever is wrong, im just a little curious. what developer was the source for that article?
how many gigabytes is a hidef movie? famitsu said that its likely that an 80 gb hdd will be optional for the ps3. you figure that if people just want to watch a movie, they'll rent it for a dollar or two through dvd kiosks or through netflix. that way they dont have to sit there and let it download for a long ass time. or if people want to keep it for their collection, they'll just buy the thing.

i understand what youre saying though.
and FYI, I'm not vouching for any system. I'm saying that going through the motions of "ZOMG SONYSGAY AND THE XOBOXROX CUZ ITS FIRST BUT NINTENDOS CONTROLLER ISTEHCOOLEST" is just retarded. We know how the gaming landscape is now and it's not going to change much, if at all.

Thats the way it usually is. They sell them at a loss but pertty soon that loss starts to get smaller and smaller. M$ have never got back all the money from the original xbox. Same with the PS2. Hell even with the GC.
But this gen, the 360 will take a loss, the PS3 will either take a HUGE loss or sell at a retarded price, andthe revolution will... So ninty say... make profit or break even. Remember, the Rev will sell at about £100-£150 when it launches in the UK. Comapre that to the 360, and the PS3, and you can see it will be cheaper.
Visual wise, what a hell of a lot of fan boys seem to forget, the Rev wont do HD. Good job, HD is pointless at this stage in time. But because it wont do HD, the graphics are only slightly under par with what the 360 and PS3 can do. In other words, the games may not look 100% as good, but 80/90% as good is a good guess. Just because it doesn't have to worry about HD.
I think HD is a big waste of space TBH. Whats the point, the PS3 cant even do 1080 anyway...

Its already changing. More and more people are getting fed up with sony tripe. Unfortunatly, that means more chavs are moving towards the 360 :icon33:Jackal wrote:and FYI, I'm not vouching for any system. In the UK, the PS2/PS3 is slowly starting to become "annoying" to people. No this isn't something i pick up on talking to people, this is something that big name guys have spoken about online.
The PS2 still outsells everything, but the average joe public is jsut getting fed up with the constant "its coming soon" bullshit from the PS3. Thus, its taking a slide.

This post of yours is complete bullshit. People don't become "annoyed" with systems you retard. They buy them and then generally enjoy the games. The console doesn't have a personality.
Jesus, what is wrong with you that makes you think your minute oppinion somehow translates into an all-encompassing cultural fact?
