yeah b&w version is better
yeah that pic looks better black and white. partially because it hides the hideous color combination that the girl is wearing with the pink and green.
Re: yeah b&w version is better
heh.. funny you should metion that shirt. I saw them passing under the bridge, so i stood above and took a shot. I desaturated that green because it bugged the hell out of meGrandpa Stu wrote:yeah that pic looks better black and white. partially because it hides the hideous color combination that the girl is wearing with the pink and green.
ok here are pictures I took at 18 yr old in 1980 at the Dallas zoo. I am not trying to derail this thread
just said I would post these pics so I am.
taken by an idiot with a Canon AE-1 with a Tokina 80-200 zoom 1:4
my own comments on these pictures will follow..(after looking at Deks)
my pictures are not crisp. I'm not sure if thats because I scanned them to big or what, but his are very sharp. Mine are scans from whatever size regular prints re made to, I scanned them from prints.
The main thing I took away from this is this...
Dek went to the zoo and took some pix. His are colorful and sharp. Mine are almost monotome and fuzzy. Now I know you can take sharp pics with an AE-1 so scanning has to be a factor and my questionable skills as a photog are also in question.
His are colorful. In mine every animal seems to be trying to blend in with the color of the bricks or dirt or sand its in
also another thing I have noticed is the type of zoo. While Dek says its a crummy litle zoo in Tampa. His crummy little zoo in tampa in 2006 is way better than the crummy zoo in Dallas was in 1980. It was like 103 out ther thats why I have no bear pictures!! They id away in ther caves out of the sun
Anyway, I have got to get a digital SLR
(I also wonder looking at these pix as old as they are, how many of these animals are still alive? Maybe the baby hippo and the giraffe,

photoshop can do a lotSplishSplash wrote:"Would I buy these pics to use them for serious work?"
First pic: Not quite sharp enough
Second pic: Impossible to separate from the background
Third pic: Bad lighting, impossible to separate
Fourth pic: Way too much light on the elephant's forehead
Fifth pic: Technically alright
Sixth pic: Bad lighting, left side is too dark, right side is too bright
Seventh: Technically alright
Eighth: Bad lighting, too dark
"Impossible" means "not possible within reasonable amounts of time/effort"
Apart from that I'd never buy them because they're absolutely boring shots. Throw those fuckers some peanuts next time.

I think I'm going to keep hitting some of the sites around the state like weekie watchie, disney, etc and keep practicing..
these are pretty much the first pics I've taken with the camera and they were all 'auto'...
I hadn't even messed with the manual aperature or exposure settings.. I'm going to mess around this week with some still life stuff using bracketing to hopefully figure some of this stuff out, it's got so many features and buttons

Also those pics haven't been cropped or anything yet, just pretty much straight from the camera..
Transient: I've always been interested in it, just never had the cash for a decent camera, my sister is a photographer (mostly weddings).
Now that I have the camera I plan it to be a minor hobby for me, but I'm really trying to dive in as well here at first so I can get some decent pics.
Also want to take pics to use as references for texture work for school/work for use in maya/3dsmax.
