What are you talking about. There was no OSX till 2001 there wasnt even ipods and steve jobs wasnt even at apple till 97, who is the driving force behind every change going on that im talking about. Apple hasnt been a OS at war or even capible of battle, but now its a strong OS ( based off unix, google it. ) on strong and cross platform hardware. Apple has stepped up to the plate and openly challanged MS with commericals and other media outlets and essentialy saying " we are on even grounds now, whats up now?"Freakaloin wrote:Iccy wrote:There is actualy a big OS war reving up isnt there. I mean obviously apple and MS are opposed to each other and each wants more and more market share, but it just didnt hit me till right now that the result of apple moving to intel is. It puts the 2 OS's on a equal playing field, it puts them on a path to truly go head to head. I dont see the new drive from apple subsiding and they definetly got momentum. Hell im even getting caught up, if i wasnt saving to start a business i would have gone and sold my brand new laptop and got a intel mac or would have atleast bought a imac, Not to mention im messing around trying to install the OS in atlast a dual boot enviroment. The company has really won me over and im cheering them on.
Anyway, i just thought that was interesting and i never heard anyone talk about it before. I think its going to be fun to watch. Especialy for me if apple stock takes off again.
welcome to 1994...
I like that in a company.
Kinda find it funny too that MS in response goes chamilion and adapted to reflect a up and coming rival instead of creating something new and unique. Interesting cause thats how the comapany got its start. Down with the bad guy. Go apple
See thats just it man, you say you want a open OS go get linux, what do you think is under the hood of max OSX ? The articles i read lately show prgrams like linux VMware not only running WinXP in it, but running at essentialy native speeds. More then that though we are talking about a seemingly very open source friendly OS, which i REALLY like.Turbine wrote:I can not even beleive that someone would consider a Mac OS.
Most peoples next step is moving oway from this "OS".
It lacks everything Windows has. And with Vista and dual core right on the horizon (circa: Nov 2006) even graphic editors (Photoshop people) have no more reason to use Mac OS.
A Mac is a -village pearson that never saw a computer- friendly.
If you want an actual OS that is powerfull and truely open source, get Linux.
Plus, why be like everyone else? I would rather support something thats new and alive, a company that is run a little different. The under dog. A comapany that i have my stock in and will retire me at the age of 31 with its next surge.
So yea, go apple.

Look who you're talking to...logic and reason are quite distant from the fool.Iccy wrote:What are you talking about....Freakaloin wrote: welcome to 1994...
the thing i'm missing the most about current OS is the way they store the files ~ this tree system is soooooo outdated. i hate having to organise them all the time. at this moment, my hdd is a whole mess. it'd take me about 6 hours to clean it up and out stuff in the appropriate folders.
the first OS that offers a better solution wins me as a user.
i'd love some system that enables me to search, sort, etc my files like iTunes does. and not only files but also links on the internet; visited sites, etc...
this really would be a step forward... all this 3d stuff in vista? not really.

Spotlight from Apple does a decent job of that. Its a GREAT search tool, and sorts things very well...similar to itunes. The MacOS also has awesome "smart folders" that house files based on descriptive criteria, and that dynamically update according to those criteria. As such, you can have a folder that has all your word documents in it that were created in the last month, or movies that contain a specific name in the title or meta data. Its cool stuff, and I think they're really working on it for OS X 10.5.Pext wrote:the thing i'm missing the most about current OS is the way they store the files ~ this tree system is soooooo outdated. i hate having to organise them all the time. at this moment, my hdd is a whole mess. it'd take me about 6 hours to clean it up and out stuff in the appropriate folders.

An OS can do many things, but one thing it can't do is make up for user laziness. Really, just keep things organized in a small system of folders and always save to the right folder and you'll be fine. I've been doing it for years and it's suited me well. No fucking shit you're going to have problems if you're too lazy to organize your stuffPext wrote:the thing i'm missing the most about current OS is the way they store the files ~ this tree system is soooooo outdated. i hate having to organise them all the time. at this moment, my hdd is a whole mess. it'd take me about 6 hours to clean it up and out stuff in the appropriate folders.

There are some benefits, such as being able to follow where things go, etc. so you can better keep track of your work if you're multitasking. I use Apple's Expose function all the time in my work.Tsakali_ wrote:yeah somebody explain to me why is this 3D interface of any use other than a five minute cheap thrill?
