Quit pretending it's not true. Islam may have been different once, but right now the quote describes it pretty well.[xeno]Julios wrote: busetbi - u really believe this?
Based on this nonsense with the cartoon and the lack of a real stance being taken by the majority voice about things like putting a hit out on the cartoonist, I'm again beginning to question how 'peaceful' this religion is. Peaceful enough that so many of its followers are protesting and rioting and killing over a cartoon of their prophet? Or have those condemnations of this behavior been coming loud and clear from the mosques, the leaders of the faith, and the masses who will generally follow their every word just aren't listening this time?SplishSplash wrote:Quit pretending it's not true. Maybe we do need a big fuckoff clash of cultures to sort out all the bad blood between them.
Edit: Also to weed out fanatics like this lady.

i don't see that though. You're making generalizations from a few thousand violent demonstraters to over a billion individuals.busetibi wrote:[xeno]Julios wrote:busetbi - u really believe this?"A religion is supposed to enhance and enrich a persons life.

maybe not so much the poverty bit, but the ignorance and hatred most definetly.
its my view,im not trying to force it onto anyone, you can agree with it or disagree with it, its up to the individual.

Its called stereotyping. It helps us dehumanize people and validate out bigotry.[xeno]Julios wrote:i don't see that though. You're making generalizations from a few thousand violent demonstraters to over a billion individuals.busetibi wrote:[xeno]Julios wrote: busetbi - u really believe this?

well, when i see the moderates come out and say the fundis have gone over the top with this cartoon shit then i may amend it.[xeno]Julios wrote:i don't see that though. no they wouldnt say that, they say death to all non believers.obsidian wrote:"A religion is supposed to enhance and enrich a persons life.
Christianity, Judaism, Western culture spreads nothing but ignorance, poverty and hatred."
Does that not sound like something an Islamic extremist may say?
But if we're talking those numbers you mentioned - that this violence represents the manifestation of the opinions of thousands out of billions of Muslims, I would think that we'd see Muslim leaders all over the world taking to the streets and airwaves to stop it or at least speak against it.[xeno]Julios wrote:i was raised a muslim, and up until about 3 years ago, was a very devout and faithful one (started out as a sunni, then a qur'an only muslim) - so i have some first hand experience with the religion. It spreads hate no more than other religions. And I think all the three monotheistic religions spread a "precursor" of hate in a very insidious fashion. By internally categorizing people into believers and nonbelievers, chosen people and not-chosen people, etc., the mind automatically considers these others as different, if not inferior.
I believe this to be a dangerous seed.
Nevertheless, a couple things:
even if NO muslim came out against the violence it still doesn't mean they, or islam, are spreaders of hatred and violence.
Secondly, there are muslim voices that have spoken out against the reactions.
this is a scary thought, and i've had it too.I've always wondered if some aren't actually glad that these riots are happening, and even happier that there are people willing to go out and do that kind of 'dirty work' for the faith.
