I've been asked to find a new laptop for someone going out of the country for a few months for under or around $500. Found an Acer that will be around 549 after rebates. Never used an Acer myself. Anyone have experience with them or opinions on Acer machines?

Cheap laptops, but i cant see anything wrong with them tbh. I think a few of my friends have owned a few with minimal problems.

Acer used to be a big company several years back. They've just dropped off the media.
I've dealt with Acer computers and never had any serious problems.

a friend of mine has one, he says the same thing - nothing fancy, but it's been reliable for him
