I definitely felt short-changed with Netfix. I would return my movies the same day I got them and still I only got about 3 per week. Which sounds like a lot but I had a 3-at-once plan so they basically took a week to replace each movie I rented. Makes me glad I switched over to blockbuster.Netflix sends frequent renters to the back of line.

I started getting Netflix this past summer and I think I might be noticing this activity myself. Recently it's taken them longer to "receive" DVDs and longer for them to arrive at my apartment. If it keeps up, I might have to switch to Blockbuster as well. I only have the 1 DVD per shipment though, so I don't really see why I would be "throttled".

question sires
what kind of condition are the DVDs usually in with these mail rentals? one thing i hate about renting DVDs from the movie store is how they're always seem to be scratched to hell thus ensuring an unpleasant playback situation.

they're about the same but without blockbuster/hollywood video stickers plastered on them.Grandpa Stu wrote:what kind of condition are the DVDs usually in with these mail rentals? one thing i hate about renting DVDs from the movie store is how they're always seem to be scratched to hell thus ensuring an unpleasant playback situation.
i'm used to giving each dvd the mild soap/water treatment before viewing anyway.
Yea I read about this in the paper. I can't blame people for getting pissed. Usually you expect companies to give you better treatment for staying with them and spending so much money with them.
It's like walking into a store for service, and then being made to wait while they help someone who just called on the phone.

I just called them
Me- I was told last week by one of your reps that movies are luck of the draw, however a recent CNN article heavily implies differently
him- big long script yada yada yada yes you are correct
Me - can you tell me how much I'm being throttled? Like am I kind of getting the shaft or am I really getting fucked hard here
him - *looks up account* your account is one of the accounts that is flagged as meeting the rental standards for selecting renting
me- fucked hard huh?
him- yeah, sorry.
me- If I open up a second account with a different card and put all the same movies in it would the show the same wait periods?
him- no.
me- and I would get the free trial on it and not be throttled. Is there any reason why that would not be a good idea for me?
him- ummm. I cant.... Is there anything else I can help you with?
me- how many people have you talked to today that have mentioned that article?
him- ALOT.
then I said thanks. poor guy

Blockbuster isn't the same way? Do they have as good a selection of movie's?bitWISE wrote:http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/10/netflix.renters.ap/index.html

Good selection of movies, yes. Website as good as netflix's, not quite. Account flagging, haven't been around long enough. I mailed my first movie back today so we'll see how long it takes to get a new one.Deathshroud wrote:Blockbuster isn't the same way? The thing that really sold me on Blockbuster was that I can rent one movie from the store per week for free. So you're guaranteed another 4 movies per month and I typically swing by on my lunch break to get a new release.

Awesome, I think I might switch considering that I also am sick of Netflix delaying my rentals.bitWISE wrote:Good selection of movies, yes. Website as good as netflix's, not quite. It's not like it's illegal or anything.Canis wrote:I dont see anything wrong with that policy...
But if I had been using them for, say, 2 years, and had spent a lot of money with them and was a good renter, then I think I'd probably be a little miffed if I found out I had to use my wife's credit card and create a new account in order to get movies as quickly as I used to.

I still have very fast turnaround, but I noticed now I have a long wait for alot of new releases. I have a ton of oldies in my queue, but I'm quite pissed this is the reason I have to wait for the new shit...

Exactly. If no one else wants the movie then it doesn't matter. I had Madagascar and The Skeleton Key in my queue for three months and still didn't receive either one.Giraffe }{unter wrote:I still have very fast turnaround, but I noticed now I have a long wait for alot of new releases. I remember there was a big issue like this over at www.emusic.com, when they were still offering unlimited downloads for a monthly fee. People who downloaded over a certain, unknown limit had their accounts closed. A lot of people were pissed, and other didn't sign up or cancelled their accounts as a way to boycott.
The whole issue died when they switched over to 40 tracks/month for $10. I think this was a good idea in the long run. They're still a profitable business and 40 tracks for $10 is still a very good deal, if you don't mind that big-named artists like Britney Spears and Metallica aren't available.
