You are joking right?raw wrote:Yank television isn't for yanks, it's for the rest of the world to look at. It's a big, "LOOK AT ME!" ploy. Real Americans don't watch shitty programming like that.
Maybe not all of us, but soccer moms sure seem to love it..
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

true, we package up our 'culture' and peddle it to the rest of the world then laugh as it infiltrates and destroys old-world customs.raw wrote:Yank television isn't for yanks, it's for the rest of the world to look at. big brother is the worst kind of car crash tv, it's so bad i thought the team behind e4 came up with it.
to be fair, it does have a lot of potential as part of a public service - if one year, they just had everyone who applied to be on it incinerated, or stripped, shaved and ground down into environmentally friendly patties.
sure we'd be short on manicurists and sales reps for a while, but ultimately i think the country would benefit.

How old-world are we talking about?Dave wrote:true, we package up our 'culture' and peddle it to the rest of the world then laugh as it infiltrates and destroys old-world customs.raw wrote:Yank television isn't for yanks, it's for the rest of the world to look at. Oh, and Americans made:
Quake (the reason you're here)
Windows/Mac (more than likely your OS)
All the best movies you've ever seen
All the best tv shows you've ever seen
And by far the greatest of all -- me.
Oh wait, and Al Gore invented the world wide web.
looololllol

there are plenty of very solid foreign films, but I think you would be very hard pressed to argue that the very best film ever made wasn't an American one.menkent wrote:i've apparently seen more movies than you have. biggest budget != best.
Rome, Open City? Battleship Potemkin? La Grande Illusion? There are so many culturally significant and innovative foreign films but I don't think any of them can possibly match up with Casablanca et al in overall score.
