you morons obviously have no idea what VTEC does. if you do, then prove me wrong by giving a detailed explaination of what it does in your own words. kthnxbye

'vtec' adjusts the cams placement throughout the rpm curve to give the best effiency.

now that you know, you can answer that question on your homework.

try to understand that vtec might ad like 10hp. It is not anything magical, like all you ricers seem to think

you can tell us why that mustang has a 'rough idle' as you so put.

can't wait to hear this... and you can't post another thread asking the same question or reply tomorrow after you interrogated Jeeves

ok moron, that mustang has race cams which are extremely aggressive and have very large lobes and long overlap. This causes much larger valve lift, letting in more air/fuel mixture, thus the engine is making more horsepower. They are calibrated to work best at high rpm, so at idle the engine is running too rich, so its very rough.

VTEC was engineered with smooth idle and high performance in mind. There are two sets of lobes, one set is calibrated for low rpm, it has a much smaller valve lift and a much shorter overlap. The other set of lobes on a DOHC VTEC head (like a B18C1, C5, B16A2, and of course the custom JUN cams that that Civic has) engage at high rpm, are much larger and much more agressive, they basically transform the camshaft into a pure-bred racing camshaft, therefore they provide a much larger valve lift and longer valve overlap, letting more air/fuel mixture into the cylinders, thus the engine makes much, much more horsepower. That all motor 1.8L Civic is making something like 240whp for your info. And you've seen how smooth its idle is. n e questions?

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.
