rude?
You pay for a class limited to 15 people, with a long waiting list of people who want to get in. the class is 2 hours once a week.
I drive to Brooklyn, about an hour, I get there about a half hour early and relax. Some of the others drive 2+ hours
Most of the people in the class are on time. But 3 people are always late 30 to 45 minutes late to a 2 hour class, which basically stops the class to hand them the work and catch them up.
One girl brings her 4 month old baby to class strapped to her chest, which is disrupting, due to all the noise and the fact the he's had to grunt out a stinky leg dripping squirt at that time of day. Not only does she show up late, leaves constantly to quiet the baby, but also stops the calss to get the work so she can leave early. and 2 other people have their kids running around the building through the class etc.
Would anyone else find this rude and/or frustrating?

Re: rude?
yep, that's ridiculous. last year there was a couple that would mosey in about a half hour late talking no less. two day a week class, everytime for the first four or so. the next session, i practically yelled "do you mind?!". they were still always late, but sftu when they got into class.Giraffe }{unter wrote:You pay for a class limited to 15 people, with a long waiting list of people who want to get in. the class is 2 hours once a week.

Yeah... that's the issue, it's not a school.
The classes are being held in meeting rooms on the lower level of a church. A public building open all Sunday for anyone, so the rules are... there are no rules :/

errr
yeah the whole kids thing is rather rediculous. being late though is another story. personally i dont mind people being late as long as they don't expect to be caught up right then and there and also dont create a huge distraction comming in.
at the same time though they paid for the course too so unless the intructor ops to do something about it then you're kinda fuct, no?
last year i had an art history lecture that no matter where i seemed to sit this group of people would ALWAYS sit right next to me. not that i care except for the fact that they constantly talked and made stupid as jokes. when learning of the three masters they made some stupid wise ass crack, "where's splinter and shredder?" granted it gave the whole lecture hall a little giggle, but when they kept repeating it over and over a few people finally got up the nerve to either turn and glare, throw something, or tell them to stfu. they went quite for about 5 minutes, cunts.

Also, since it was a dumb idea.riddla wrote:no law has to be broken in order to bring suitJackal wrote:uh huh, and exactly what law is being broken by having a kid in a class?riddla wrote:Bring a lawsuit against the school for even allowing children in an adult classroom.
anyhow, since it isnt a real school the issue seems moot at this point
not a valid solution since in effect those few people are requiring more time from the teacher, more like personal time one to one...it's not fair any way you look at it.Canis wrote:Why does the professor stop for them? I'd make an announcement that the class will start at one time, and continue through to the end as scheduled, and those who missed anything can stay afterwards.
ps
you gotta give it to the bitch though, she's juggling parental responsibilities and a class all at once.
Well, I guess in reference to being rude to the other classmates only, but still, I see what you mean. They're screwing someone over one way or the other.Tsakali_ wrote:not a valid solution since in effect those few people are requiring more time from the teacher, more like personal time one to one...it's not fair any way you look at it.Canis wrote:Why does the professor stop for them? my beef is if you have a 2 hour class why show up late walk out 3 or 4 times then leave early, especially when there are a long list of people waiting to take this class seriously?

I don't know the importance of the class but sounds to me like she really wants to attend even if it's not a good idea under the sircumstances.
BTW are you the only one ticked off about this? have you talked to any one else in the class and see how they feel? I say a verbal petition would be reason enough to have a serious talk with the instructor.

indeed. that's what's great about online courses, although most of the time, imo, it's not as good as being hands on with greater interactivity. still, it's an alternative.Tsakali_ wrote:Canis wrote:Why does the professor stop for them? LoL. I'd love to be sitting at the lawyer's desk when this sort of lawsuit comes across. He'd snatch it up in a second!riddla wrote:sure thing champ. horrible idea to think the course should be worth the money paid and time spent.Jackal wrote:Also, since it was a dumb idea.riddla wrote: no law has to be broken in order to bring suit

Your comment just reminded of the sort of knee-jerk understanding a 10 year old has of the legal system. "The teacher took my YoYo. My dads gonna sue!!!!"
Didn't mean to offend you though skipper. Sorry pal, better luck next time though eh buddy? *playful fist to the chin*
First and foremost, are you still essentially getting what you paid for from the class? If not (and others in your class aren't either) then you should bring that point up to the teacher and it will probably be addressed in one way or another.
If you're getting what you paid for, but you're having to spend an extra hour in class than you're supposed to, then that's another angle you can take with the teacher.
If neither of those work, you should go to the parent company offering the class -- the teacher's boss or the representative who signed you up -- and see if there are any other ways you can have the problem addressed.
I agree though man, it's shit to pay for something and be made to put up with that.
On the other hand, since it is such a sought-after class, it's possible that you won't have much choice in the matter at all. They can always get new students, right?
How long til the course is over?

this is what I do, if they are late, its their job to catch up or miss out on that info. A teacher who stops lectures etc for the benefit of a minority has got their priorities wrong - or they are more caring and senstive than me. I'd keep it rolling and not offer more time out of class for individs unless they were pretty damn hot (or genuine).Canis wrote:Why does the professor stop for them? "Liberty, what crimes are committed in your name."
