Savatage and other 80's metal and rock bands

Post by tnf »

I saw a video of theirs today from the 80s...had never actually heard of the name of the group before but I recognized the tune...
Anyone heard "Hall of the Mountain King" from them? Funny video that automatically owns because there is a midget in it.. Anyhow, apparently they went on to form, or work with (not sure which) the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

So what's my point? I miss the funny days of music videos from the 80s hair and metal bands. Most of these fellas look like their head is about 5 sizes too big for their body with the hair they carry around. I'd like to see a mugshots thread of what our q3w'ers faces would look like had we all been sporting those do's in the 80's.

I've been a Savatage fan for quite some time. I had long hair in the 80's, but not huge like that. Not sure if any pics survived.

They didn't form the TSO, but worked with them quite a bit.

Yar, you can hear the beginnings of what became the trans siberian orchestra in Savatage's music. They were the first to do that whole orchestra/rock sound.

I love Savatage. Their album "The Wake of Magellan" is great work. Others I like are:

Streets
Poets and Madmen
Fight for the Rock
Handful of Rain

TSO has a good non-christmas based album called "Beethoven's last night" which is pretty cool as well. They do a great job at mixing metal and classical music genres.

Some of it can be rather monotonous, but most of it is pretty good stuff. I dont like their early stuff as much as their later stuff. I think they really developed into a good band over time.

fuckin' A, Savatage is a kick-ass band. Easily in my top 5 favorite list. Haven't heard much TSO stuff, I know a lot of it is Christian/more classical+metal stuff..... bought my mom one of their cds for Christmas.

and hair metal = woot
what lies beyond...
