Trying to decide on a new car.

Post by Iccy »

Well last year i missed WAY too much swell cause my car is a lil shakey and im afraid of long trips to the east coast with it. So its out.

Tell me about your favorite cars, which cars you would buy that are highly reliable and great on gas. Im looking for a car thats going to run all day job to job then handle trips to the east coast once a month or more. I dont wanna get over 3k though.

So... discuss. :)

Right now im thinking, 4 banger, but it needs a lil umph too cause i jump in traffic all day. Maybe accordish? sure like the SUV style of my rodeo, but that much weight needs a bigger engine to pull it, so yea. I dunno lol. :)

Just buy a honda..
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

For quality, performance, safety, and price:

-Volkswagen Golf, Jetta
-Chevrolet Cobalt, Cavalier
-Toyota Corolla
-Honda Civic
-Mazda Protege
-Nissan Maxima, Altima

Agree on Infiniti G20 :icon14:

Forgot Honda Accord :)

Mitsubishi Evo 8
Subaru Impreza WRX or RS
Honda S2000
VW Jetta
Scion tC
Hyundi Tiburon
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Mazda3 sedan

Nice cars bit, but they are way too expensive. Ill be running this thing into the ground too fast to spring for a evo or a tib or something.

The VW golf is something i always craved, good call captain.

but you really think those american cars are more reliable then a import?

Well from what I've seen, most domestics cost less to repair. I'm not really sure I agree with imports being more reliable. To me that's like saying Asus makes bad motherboards because you had one break or Trojan makes the worst condoms because they have the most failures.

If you want a cheap car I would say Civic or Cavalier. The tC is an amazing car for the price though. $16k brand new with styling like a BMW and decent performance.

This summer Voltswagen is coming out with new Golf models, they from what I have seen so far, they are amazing.

I traditionaly did not like the Honda Civics, due to one fact only, they looked like ugly peaces of molded mettal alloys. But the newest model of the Civic (2005 or 2006?) have a complete style makeover and are to par with european styles.

And thus, making them the worst make to buy. Due to the most number of failures.

Its not one though its a long history. I used to be a auto mechanic and imports were always more reliable. To me its a fact, lest you got proof of how domestic cars have vastly improved. Believe me im all for it, they are cheaper, i just dont remember a stellar performance. I mean its nice that domestic cars are cheaper to fix and all, but i dont want to have to fix it to begin with. I drive all day and need a rock solid car that can take it. digg ?

Get one of those cheap gas efficient cars that look like they weigh about the same as a motorcycle. I heard a friend of mine made it from Toronto to Montreal and back on 20$ worth of gas. which is amazing concidering gas prices these day's.

Taken care of domestics are fine.. Ive owned alot of GM cars and i drive them like im driving them into the ground..

Not a single one has just totally died.. just lame shit like fuel pumps and thats normal for any car..

Currently, my blazer has 160,000 miles on it.. i turn the key, it starts and runs just fine..

Buying used, as far as domestics go, you just have to be sure its strong running before you pick it up, but you already know that ;)

Id still buy a honda tho.. for what you want.. hell im selling my blazer soon and buying something like a civic.. commuting is a bitch in a car that gets 250 miles to a tank..

mk3 golf, simply because the usable cubic feet of storage space far surpasses that of any honda except the crx (the beauty of a hatch)

Jettas have horrible repair histories, unless that's changed in the past couple of years.

They might be quite common, but a Civic has great reliability and good gas mileage. Not the sexiest car in the world, but...

True simply because even if the honda had a shitty owner, that motor is gonna run for 30k with a cracked head gasket >_<

A Scion tC is nothing like a BMW. In any way.

You might wanna check out a used BMW 3 series. They are great cars that can take a lot of punishment if you treat them right.

Other than that, check out Honda's and Acura's.

Well all good sugestions, and maybe better for you then mine, but I would go for a 86-95 Mercedes E-Class or a 82-93 190E. You can find a good one for 3k. For the 190E any of the engines are good and manuals are fairly common. For the E-Class I would recommend the 300E, has a good 3L I6. The only thing is that a valve job is needed around 150,000 miles, so it might behove you to get one that has already had a valve job done or is lower miles. Of course the problem is that if something does break the repairs are usually costly. However we drove ours a full year after it needed a valve job, because the Jeep decided that it didn't want a transmission and broke unexpectedly ruining our impending vacation and cancelling our appointment for a valve job. The only thing was that it was eating spark plugs monthly, but spark plugs aren't expensive. Problem being finding one, because if something isn't quite right then don't buy it. There is an saying, "Nothing more expensive then a cheap Mercedes" But that is my personal suggestion.

I'm talking about the style of the body.

They both have very subtle curves with well designed, flared wheel wells and a low profile.
