I didn't say ditch it, but I'd like it better if it had its own unique multiplayer rather then quake 3 on doom 3 engine.

Meh, I think that there is a perfect implementation of a FPS game, and the Quake series though different between each version have many aspects that fit into that perfect form, as such there isnt going to be a completely unique game, especially since it would alienate loads of the established player base.
Q4 is different enough imo to make it a fresh experience.
