Original Xbox and Component Video...
Original Xbox and Component Video...
Ok...I have an original Xbox I am using on an LCD Flatpanel TV. The TV can receive a component signal which is 480i/p or "Enhanced Definition". Would I see any improvment if I was to get the HD AV kit for the Xbox or would this not even be compatible and be wasting money?

component is "enhanced def", not composite. and "yes" you'll notice a difference. if not, please gouge out your eyes with a mellon baller.

It should be compatable, if you're an a/v nut like me, or you have sharp eyes (and a nice screen) you might notice, i found that using composite was a nicer picture, I wish they had DVI, as it looks the best imo.
It can't go any higher then 480p?
if it can't nevermind
Legend for idiots
480i = Normal Tv
480p = Progressive Scan Tv
720i = 720 interlaced (not used?)
720p = 720 progressive (1st hd format)
1080i = 1080 interlaced (2nd, better looking format)
1080p = not really used, mostly for bragging rights on new tvs...
the arguement of choice right now is that 720p looks better because it is essentially more lines...
also, you can do progressive scan with S-Video as well, so go with that as it's cheaper...You don't need hidef if you aren't gonna use it...

Re: Original Xbox and Component Video...
My cousin has a progressive scan tv and he uses the HD kit for the xbox. I'll tell you what....halo 2 looks MUCH sharper on his tv.Berserker wrote:Ok...I have an original Xbox I am using on an LCD Flatpanel TV. I thought my tv was progressive scan, but it is the lower version of 480. i or p, i don't know.....but it still looks decent.

I hate that, I mix them up, the red green blue ones, not the red yellow white (damn my almost-dislexia)....
And no, that was what I used with xbox, but now that I have 360 I use DVI

I borrowed the Monster cable HD kit from work, it works so good I still have not returned it. Yes there is a noticable differance.

Sup G}{, sorry I hadn't been to your last couple of Halo2 games. I'm offshore and won't be home till the 18th.
I agree, Moster Cable stuff is way overpriced. I'm sure its good quality stuff, but come on. Looks like the HD kit may be harder to find than I thought. I checked Wal-mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, and none of them have it.

ive had the hd kit for quite a while (actually its called the advanced scart in euro, and it comes with only 3 cables instead of 5) yet my beamer wont pick it up. quite annoying to say the least
i never really made an effort to fix it though, it might be very easy to fix. either that or the advanced av simply doesnt support progressive like the HD kit does
oh wlel when the 360 gets here itll all be HD :icon14:

Yeah, I think I got th $15 HD cable and the difference is very easy to see.
gay. kinda what i thought thoughr3t wrote:PAL xboxes simply don't support progressive scan. You'll need to switch your xbox to ntsc for it to work, either by modding it or by using a savegame exploit.
the ps2 does support progressive on some games (and for dvd playback). but i never got the cables for it so that point is moot too :O

Cool, I'm working out the issues eliminating the occasional butmuch that joins to be anoying, I'm starting to get a steady stream of good playing regulars now and cuting down on the amount of people allowed in my arena. If you ever have issues getting in just IM me I'll kick someone :icon34:
