4 nightmare xaero challenge
4 nightmare xaero challenge
Recently I attended a lan party and one of the challenges that we did (for a cash prize) was the following:
-Deathmatch with 4 nightmare level Xaero bots
-No Timelimit
-20 Fraglimit
-Map Q3DM17
-No cheating / No cheesy AI exploits (chatting etc.)
The best anyone was able to do (in a practice round) was 15. I'm sure this is possible for someone out there, I'm just really kind of interested in actually seeing it done. So if any good players are bored and care to give it a try, post a demo for bragging rights....

I did beat the normal dm17 at nightmare with the perfect award (got killed 0 times). The only way you can do that is to be lucky at the beginning (2 or 3 nightmare bots will frag you with MG in 2 seconds right at the first spawn) and then run to the railgun and camp. If you manage to do that you could probably beat even 4 xaero's (if they're killing eachother enough). I tried doing dm17 without camping the rail and getting every quad instead, which went pretty well until doom suddenly rails me from an impossible angle.
If you want to see my demo, go here.

If you're not on an internet server but on your own pc (listen server) you'll also want to set sv_fps to 125, otherwise the demo will play back at 20 FPS (choppy shit).Dirty006 wrote:Yes, you'll have to set g_sychronousClients 1 first....then 'record demoname'
If you're recording a demo online, disable g_synchronousclients after starting to record. Otherwise you'll be lagged.
Just managed to beat 4 of them by one frag, in 3 minutes exactly, but with bot_challenge 0 (too hard with it enabled, but it's not default anyway).
Took me about 45 minutes... It's only possible to beat them without rail camping if you'd do as much MG damage as they do. I managed to get to 15 a few times without rail camping, but you need MG too much and quad doesn't really help because you can't get close enough (they'll spawn close and kill you). They can literally kill you on the first spawn within less than half a second.
So, my not so graceful but succesful demo:

You can see how hard i'm trying, can't even strafejump properly. :icon32: I stayed calm when a xaero hit 19 though, and he didn't make a kill when i made the last 4 frags which saved me.
If you wanna try this, make sure you don't rail freshly spawned xaeros because you need to hit them twice, meaning the others will probably steal your kill. You need to do the stealing.
I'd like to see some demo's of people who actually have some skills though. It should be possible to do it in about 20 x 1,5 + let's say 5 seconds to get to RG = ~35 seconds, as an absolute minimum.

Yeah well i got lucky that none of them spawned high when i was railing them from the side platform. You can get a lot of kills when they are reasonable close and shooting at eachother. Rail is really the best weapon for it because they are often machinegunned before your rockets reach them. :icon27: After hitting a rail it can be smarter to finish with MG instead of a 2nd rail too, because if you miss the 2nd the kill will probably be stolen.Dirty006 wrote:Sweet....good job. Looks like you used a combination of the two techniques we tried. Railing from the far platform....and then what I think really got the job done for you- railing from the side platform as they sprung up. I'm not even familiar with the bot_challenge setting, what is that exactly?
Bot_challenge makes bots really more agressive. Seems like they kill what's closest first and not just what they see first. It seemed a lot harder anyway. Try it and see the difference.
Btw, after 45 minutes of trying i just concluded that it's too hard to beat them all without rail camping, so if i could have camped at RG without dying i would have done that, like in my dm17 perfect demo.

Perhaps tourney6 is possible, although you can forget ever taking MH/RA. If you just kill all of them 5 times on average before they've kill ed you 20 times, you've made it. Every time they go to BFG you can also reduce their frags by 1.
Misantropia told me he used to have a screenshot of him beating 5 or 6 xaeros on t6, but he lost it. Dunno of that was TDM or FFA.

Btw you can find me on the Dutch Freeze Tag servers called The Dog 1 and 2 most of the time when i'm quaking:
The Dog [1] Freeze 1|22ms|195.11.243.34:27960
The Dog [2] Freeze 2|42ms|195.11.243.34:27961
I'm always up for a 1v1 though, cpma or vq3/osp/whatever.
