they're alive!! (actually no)

The misinformation is so absurd... how the FUCK do you mess up with something so simple: they're either DEAD or ALIVE. No "in between", no "it's hard to tell". You take their pulse... ask them a question. If you get a reasponse or feel a pulse... they're ALIVE. If not, they're DEAD. Pretty fucking simple.

What a stupid rollercoaster their wives and family must be going through right now. :(

EDIT: It's making more sense, now:

"Mr Hatfield said: "What happened is that through stray cellphone conversations it appears that this miscommunication from the rescue team underground to the command centre was picked up by various people... was relayed through cellphone communications without our ever having made a release.

"International Coal Group never made any release about all 12 of the miners being alive and well, we simply couldn't confirm that at that point.

"But that information spread like wildfire because it had come from the command centre but it was a bad information." "

they updated the main article now. But the juxtaposition of the big headline ("THEY'RE ALIVE") with the smaller alert at top ("all 12 others dead") is just, like you say, bizarre.

I got this from the AP:

"Families learned of the deaths from mine officials more than three hours after Gov. Joe Manchin said he had been told 12 of the miners survived the disaster."

3 hours... just enough time to celebrate and let it all sink in, then have the news quashed. Greek tragedy never got this bad.

Gov. Joe Manchin. A cunt. After cryin for a few days over the loss of my pappy, I'd hunt this simple bitch down and serve him his balls (w/ mango salsa).
Families learned of the deaths from mine officials more than three hours after Gov. Joe Manchin said he had been told 12 of the miners survived the disaster. The sole survivor of the disaster was hospitalized, a doctor said.

Found this gem:

"But it became clear that something good was happening around 11.30pm local time when Governor Joe Manchin left the church, gave a thumbs-up sign and told everyone to "believe in miracles, believe in miracles".

Hmm, maybe the gov is a religious wacko who, knowing the miners were dead, said they were alive in order to commence a modern day, literal, miracle?

the radio this morning was saying that someone misinterpreted "12 bodies" as "12 perfectly healthy, happy survivors"

The title on cnn.com now read...

'We were told they were alive'

In characteristically massive text.
