That's how it is.

Post by Lenard »

We all learn eventually that there are two different kinds of trust. You can trust that someone will not cheat on you, that someone will not be late... that is conventional trust. There is another kind... the trust that someone will always be there to make you happy no matter what happens. The trust that someone cares about you as much as you do them. The trust that someone would never hurt you as long as it was their decision. This is unconventional trust and it is a lie. You are lying to yourself. Everyone learns that you can not trust another person in that way. We all find out eventually. Some of us get it over time, through our childhood, through our early experiences. Some get it all at once, and it leaves a scar.

That's all there is, there is no more.

The last time I checked this was Q3W, not psychologytoday.com, but then again I could be mistaken.

but it's still an interesting concept to think about. the thing is though that there are so many factors involved that this statement may not always be true whereas at other times it would appear to be dead on.

i find a great deal of its truthfullness lies directly in the individual that it is compared to--and it varies to a certain degree. to blindly go forth and just agree that this statement is the truth at all times would greatly put a damper on one's life. what a sad existense that would be to never really trust someone, not because they can't be trusted, but simply because people refuse to allow themselves to trust them. afterall this statement is assuming that road of logic.

there are people whom we can always count on. the thing is though, just how much someone can be trusted is often led by how much a person is willing to trust that individual. that in itself opens a paradox of sorts; what's the point of being trustworthy if no one is willing to trust another in the first place?

people constantly are forging allies and burning bridges--that's life. if someone lets past experiences rule their life then that is truly, truly sad. each individual needs to be assessed on their own. past experiences do act as aids to help us figure out new acquaintances but they should not force us to write off moral characteristics for everyone.

when looking at the statement it can pretty much be simplified down to the whole, "all man is evil" sort of ideology. the thing is, not all man is evil.

But I feel like my body will never let me trust anyone that way again. It is not really about trusting someone. The first kind of trust has alot to do with the other person, but the second kind has alot to do with the self. The fact is, what the individual asks at times of others is simply impossible. We cannot rely on people to do these things, and so it becomes a sort of a strength to not rely on others for these things. Yeah, that is what I was thinking.

expectations cant be evenly applied to all people, i believe because of differant current states of personal development.

find more of a similar match to your development, then your expections might have a better chance of fufillment.

still tho expectations from others are risky

jus sayin
it is about time!

You are completely right. This is Q3W, and we are here to discuss a game called Quake III: Arena, released by id software in 1999. I hate when threads get off topic.

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

Some unsolicited advice:
Don't always base your relationships in life on a "looking out for number one" attitude. This is necessary in the majority of dealings with people, but that's what makes it so important when you do find someone you can really trust. Just because you thought you could trust someone before and it turned out to be bad judgement on your part, doesn't mean that it should reflect on your opinion of everyone else you know or meet.

And if you really are 18, stop trying to sound so jaded. You barely know anything about people yet. :p
