Another NCAA basketball thread...

Post by tnf »

As conference play is about to begin for most teams now, it's time to look at things and see who shouldn't be ranked where they are.

I have only one observation - Much is made of UWs undefeated season so far. My fucking high school schedule was tougher, and included more away games, than what UW has done so far. They've beaten 1 team - Gonzaga, (actually they beat Morisson and a bunch of bench players) by 4 points. Otherwise, their schedule has got to be one of the easiest in college basketball.

Here's their victories (notice they've had all home games so far - except for the game at key arena):
Morgan State 118-51
Wisconsin-Green Bay 87-54
Air Force Falcons 85-74
American University 99-82
Idaho Vandals 90-67
Loyala Marymount 112-65
Gonzaga - 99-95
New Mexico 81-71
Eastern Washington 91-74
Lehigh 54-37
Arizona State 91-67

All home games. Hell, the PAC-10 sucks so bad this year they might win every game. I don't know how their coach isn't embarrased by that schedule. Hopefully their lack of real competition will hit them in the face during the first round of the NCAA tournament, if they get there.

I am quietly hoping that this is the year the Razorbacks make it back into the 64 :(

which of course, is all Gonzaga really is. If a team can take Morisson out of the game, they are not going to beat anybody. Memphis showed that by putting a frosh with 3 fouls on him and shutting him down for the last ten min. of the game :olo:
I don't care what the schedule is, 10 in a row and 32 in a row at home is not easy. I'm surprised you didn't call them the Seahawks of the ncaa. Saying they haven't played anybody makes as much sense as me saying: well they beat idaho by 23 when the zags only beat them by 9.
If they are still undefeated after the 14th and beat UCLA, I better see a pic of you in your new purple and gold sweatshirt :p

yes, batista, ravio (although he's struggled since the back injury and funeral), and knight, when healthy, are just nobodies.

I didn't say that their schedule was easy, but ffs - you cannot seriously try and compare the schedule that GU has played vs. the schedule that UW has played so far.

And I didn't say what the have done was completely easy - perhaps I should give them a bit more credit. But the bottom line is their schedule has been PADDED and their ranking, as a result, is inflated.

i was just giving you shit.
cant say I'm real big on catholic boys, but catholic girls
yeah, UW has had it easy, but then again they lost thier top two players and are still putting up 91 a game.
and over half the roster are underclassmen.
should they be number 7? I don't know, but they did beat GU and since they haven't lost yet, so I think they should be ranked ahead of them.
I do think Lorenzo is putting toghether a hell of a team though, and the huskies probably have a better chance of bringing a title home to our state before the zags do.
anyway, lets hope they meet in the final 4

Oh I don't doubt that UW has a lot of potential. But I think Lorenzo's hatred for losing had a lot to do with his making this cupcake early season schedule. He as much admitted it in an interview saying he was unapologetic about it and justifying it on the grounds that a lot of the big east coast teams do the same thing...

The Zags manage to find a way to play to the level of their opponent, whether that be a horrible team or a great team. I'm a rare Zag fan in that I think Few needs to go - he doesn't adjust. GU is always prone to some guy lighting them up from 3 point land, and you'll never see Few leave the zone to prevent it. When GU was leading texas tech last year in the tournament, I told everyone I was watching the game with that Texas would win, because at half time Bobby Knight, a great coach, would make adjustments...he did, and they won.

Also, GUs offense aside from morrison has been horrible lately. Freshman point gaurd Pargo does too much dribble penetration under the basket and has nowhere to go with the ball from there.

They have got to STOP FUCKING TURNING THE BALL OVER if they expect to have any sort of chance in progressing deep in march.

Finally, the writer's and analysts are noticing it. UW dropped one in Luke Winn's power rankings at cnnsi and he said this:

Washington Huskies (11-0)
My typical reaction when Dick Vitale gets fully charged for a spastic V-rant is to hit down-volume on the remote, or if that's impossible, tune out and curl into the fetal position, but he made a rather valid point during Tuesday's Gonzaga-Memphis game: This season, Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar is scheduling like the Jim Boeheim of the West. UW has played 12 games, 10 at home. Its other two contests were neutral-court affairs, one in Anaheim, Calif. (vs. New Mexico) and the other in the far-away locale of ... Seattle (vs. Air Force). So while I still like the Dawgs, and they're still undefeated, it's getting more and more difficult to justify keeping a number of road-tested squads behind them.
Next three: 12/31 vs. Arizona, 1/2 vs. Cornell, 1/7 vs. Washington State.[/i]
