state/federal labor laws?

state/federal labor laws?

What's the easiest way to look up labor laws? Specifically I'm trying to find out if it's illegal to force employees to work on federal holidays without double pay or recompensation.

Anybody know?

Nevermind. I guess it isn't illegal at all, just up to you and your employer to decide.

My girlfriend had to work the day after Christmas, which was a paid company holiday, and she has to work next Monday, which is also a paid holiday. She's on salary and isn't getting any comp or anything.

I'm fucking furious but it looks like there isn't a damn thing she can do about it.

Shitty. Where I live they pay you at least time and a half, and if you've passed probation it's double-time. AFAIK it's the law up here heh. I'm not complaining

Her boss even told her she was lucky she didn't have to work Saturday too.

She had a weeks vacation before Christmas, and had to work at home 2 days out of that, and she brings work home to do about 2 nights out of every week.

She's a Finance Dept. manager, and I understand how hectic things can get when periods close out and such, but it sounds more to me like they're abusing her.
It doesn't help much knowing that the other people in the department have to work too.

check out her contract... over here we have contracted days

if your holiday falls on that contracted day then you have to work it

if you are contracted to work holidays you have to work it

if not you can stick your finger up and tell em to swivel

edit: also, i have nye and nyd off **dances neked in a pool of mud**
