those are some excellent articles man, thx for posting.Grudge wrote:Google is waay more than just another search engine.
How about these facts:
Google is buying huge amounts of dark fiber, and placing their own data centers all over the globe, effectively creating an Internet of their own, parallell to the existing one.
Microsoft are forced to adapt their future strategy to the new conditions created by Google. That means moving their focus towards subscription based online services instead of commodity products. Windows Vista for free, but charging for virus/spyware protection, support, data storage etc.

Did you read the big fat quote in $JuggerNaut$'s first post? Or are you relying on other sources that haven't been mentioned in this thread? Because what you're saying goes against what was suggested. Here it is again:glossy wrote:no, you'll only see huge flashing banners on google adsense pages -- websites that advertise through google's system. google will be probably be ad-free forever.mjrpes wrote:The minute I start seeing flashing banners on google is the minute I switch to another search engine.
The article is pretty clear that we're talking graphical ads on the Google site itself, not adsense. In fact, the article notes graphical ads already exist with adsense. The executives close to the talks said that at AOL's request, Google would begin to test various forms of graphical ads, and that it would make the same formats available to other advertisers. Google has started to sell graphical ads for placement on other sites; plans to do so on Google itself were accelerated by the AOL talks, an executive involved in the negotiations said.

that was in the article, but now that it's written in stone, it's worth another view.

The recent announcement of the AOL partnership has been the source of a lot of rumors and misconceptions. We'd like to clear some of those up.
SourceThere will be no banner ads on the Google homepage or web search results pages. There will not be crazy, flashy, graphical doodads flying and popping up all over the Google site. Ever.
Heh, yep. No cams or voice sucks. I've stuck with Miranda but fire up Skype to chat with my parents at the weekend.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:it would just be nice to use one client for everything and have everything work. i've used trillian in the past, but haven't for awhile since pro was giving me grief with random crashes (on a reformat no less). miranda? nah. no cam support last time i checked. gaim? well that's what i'm using now, but no cam support there either, so i still fire up the bloat that is msn mssgr unfortunately.
