Firefox 'issues'

I lost all my favorites once, but it wasn't like this.
When it happened to me, they just disappeared. I opened FF, wasn't prompted about profiles or anything, and all my shit was gone.
Looked in the folders manually, and there was just no bookmarks.html anywhere on the drive. Just completely lost for no apparent reason.
I searched the mozilla forums and such, and apparently it's happened to quite a few people, but no solution has been found.
So yea, I back mine up regularly now.
But that, coupled with the memory problem and slow launch, and also the fact that there's no option to run windows in separate processes, so they all crash together when they crash, are making me consider other alternatives. But there's no way I'm ever touching IE again, and the other options just aren't that great.

Wow really? I'll have to try that and see what happens.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:FF has had the unaddressed leak issue for quite some time now. i was hoping 1.5 would have solved some of the bloat, but in fact, it's worse now. i had two tabs open for <2 hours the other day and it was using around 250MB. no excuse for that.R00k wrote:Yea, but if I leave it on all day and it works its way up to a gig of memory, that almost definitely points to a leak.
oh, and don't blame extensions because i only have adblock.

unfortunately, yes. i thought perhaps it was a one-time deal and was going to let it go when i noticed the same behaviour on several other occurences.Deathshroud wrote:Wow really? i use firefox extensively at home and work, but am tiring of its memory bloat too. i often use 15 tabs or so, but even when less, the memory usage only climbs...closing tabs does Not free up any memory ever, as youd expect it to, and idle it often increases usage slowly. Restarting frequently is the only option, but yes i tire of it, and the difficulty with multimedia/java/plugins.
now that opera has gone ad free i might try that, i suspect it will be more efficient memory wise at least.

does opera have a similar platform? I'm concerned because most of my work with IT dev staff is in Firefox, and the memory issue has been a problem - but since I dont use explorer for testing prior to software release, I've been using Firefox and had other people testing in explorer. Would Opera be a useful replacement in this instance?

btw, left ff open for 8+ hours last night w 3 or 4 tabs open, all sites that autoupdate. mem used was 70mb and 73MB when i checked this morning. it does bloat a little but 1.5, for me, is much better than any previous version. before 1.5 i could never adjust volume of media player in embedded video, screen would just go black. not to mention lagging when i closed a tab w/a vid in it. there's still a 1 second slowdown but not 10 seconds like it had been in previous versions.
and as far as loading on first boot, 5 seconds max to open. but i use google homepage so i have to wait for gmail and various rss feeds to update. could be faster i think.

Hmm, I'm still having most of the problems you described after upgrading to 1.5, including the video blanking out when I try to do other things on the page or even open the volume control, and laggnig when I close a video tab. It also takes longer to open than yours, even when it loads to a blank page.prince1000 wrote:nope.Cooldown wrote:Anyone else having trouble adding additional search engines to the drop down search bar?
