I don't disagree with some of the ideas that drive the Patriot Act, but I simply do not trust the Feds to have such free reign, and I think that they're using it to track and investigate political enemies as much as they are suspected terrorists.

Has anyone else noticed that within the last 20 years or so the Liberal and Republican parties have basically done a 180 of what they used to stand for?

It's funny watching a left-wing party fighting to get less government intrusion that was proposed by the right-wing party. It's all fucked. This basically shows that the current Republican party is so facist that even Liberals are turned off by it.

Or is fascism just a right-wing tendancy?

I have always equated right wing with more control and reactionary actions and the left with less control and revolutionary actions...

So yeah right wing extrapolated to the max = fascism with the left max being anarchy or some such.

it's called 'consensus'. here in the UK, the new conservative leader is trying to entice liberal democrats to defect to the conservatives by posing as being more liberal than the (historically left-wing) labour party. all the main parties have simply converged into a kind of fudgey mess where managerial competence rather than political ideals is all that distinguishes them. plus, ironically, the majority of the general population in both countries is further to the left than any of the idiots standing for election
