Ubisoft says the 360 version of King Kong will suck

Fans wanting to get the best out of the King Kong video game should avoid the version for Microsoft's new Xbox 360, the game's maker Ubisoft has suggested.

Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot admitted that the 360 game is too dark on standard TVs, making it hard to play.

"I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't see it when we were developing the game," he told the BBC News website.
Microsoft...it appears yet again you've released stuff without making sure it fucking works correctly. gg.

How do you miss something so obvious as a dark game?

It sounds like it was Ubisoft's mistake from the article. They designed it for HD tv's and didn't test it on regular ones. :paranoid:

Microsoft also has a QA department and standards regarding games that play on their equipment.

Obviously Ubisoft has owned itself here but it seems like there was a large gap in communication with Microsoft regarding the use of the 360 with certain equipment.

MS QA's all XBox 360 games after the developer does?

I did not know that.

It's not full QA that a publisher or developer would do on a project. It's another level of QA on top of everything else. Ultimately it must pass mustard to be sold for the console.

Sony is pretty anal about their standards. FFS...their QA pay testers to sit there, run the game and pull the memory card out just to see if it crashes. They do this all day.

All I'm saying is that - while the developers were busy making the game - nobody bothered telling them their shit wouldn't work correctly with some setups.

I didn't know any of that. I just assumed all the burden was on the dev's to make sure everything worked correctly. I guess it's good to have that kind of quote-unquote 'logo' testing -- if they actually test it thoroughly and make it mean something.

I see your point now though.

Yes, all the 3 companies companies have very anal QA standards. We had a bug report regarding a game crashing due to transferring a save game to the PC, hex editing it, and putting it back on the card and trying to load it (which granted should error out gracefully, but still, it's a bit murr). Then there are the bugs such as "start saving the game, then unplug your controller, turn the system upside down, pull out all the memory cards, put in full memory cards, crashes"

Ouch. If they're that picky about it, they should have caught something as obvious as a dark, unplayable screen on normal televisions.

Do any games - like low-budget, rushed film games - get pipelined through the QA process to get them out quickly?

no mention of composite/s-video/component switching making a difference on a standard set. a bit silly. also, they said "some" tv's. most likely not the majority.

Was playing kong on the psp today.

Fuck the 360 version being dark, have you seen this one?

You need to turn every light off just to see it. Doesn't help 90% of its set at night i guess.

The company I work for is retarded. The last project went into production with 45 defects already identified. It ended up being pulled and re-released 3 months later...

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.
