How many tasks can you perform at once?

Post by Guest »

My GF is always complaining/reprimanding me for having too many things open at once and also because of the electricity it consume.
I am right now at the PC, two TVs on, one for a movie the other one for continuous news, the radio low volume for music and news, the lamp on my desk is on so I can read some mags or just even the circulars promos of the week and I can write thoughts/things on my tablet. I don’t recall when I started living this way but I like to be surrounded by information/media, I don’t want to miss a thing. I want someday to have a complete wall covered with 30 TVs and may be I will be satisfied with my hunger for information. Forgot to mention, right now I have only one subscription with one newspaper but there is another one free at the depanneur that I get everyday also, plus four mags once a week or monthly. That is beside the ones I buy at the depanneur and the books.
Still, I have a lot to learn, as some of you know me a bit.

don't forget hitting refresh on Q3W every 5 minutes to get the latest scoop.. :D

tis actually a tad over the top. When do you have time to live for yourself, if all you do is watch for news?

Make news for yourself, before you become the news.. (i.e. obituraries.)

I know, that's why I am also looking for a 2 or 4 video card for multiple monitors. I know that matrox have some really awesome ones for my PC but I am waiting for a deal. I have 3 PCs but it is quiet a burden to go to one keyboard to the others, believe me.

what's a KVM?

Post by Grandpa Stu »

Short for keyboard, video, mouse switch, a hardware device that enables a single keyboard, video monitor and mouse to control more than one computer one at a time.
KVM switches are popular among users who have upgraded their home PC systems and want to still use their old computers but do not want to invest in a second keyboard, monitor and mouse. KVM switches are also used by business to save money when one person uses more than one computer and in server farms where it is only necessary to periodically access each separate server in the farm one at a time.

Thanks a whole lot for making my life much easier, I never heard of this gadget before. Does it worth the price VS a quad video card though?

Definitely worth it. It means you can keep a PC solely for gaming and use another one for surfing, email, work etc.

Run an IM client on the gaming PC to pass server addresses to it before switching the KVM.

That's just one example. If you do a lot of rendering you can set a render process running, then switch to another PC to carry on while it runs. If you're an IT tech KVMs are useful for bringing PCs in and working on them on your regular monitor/keyboard.

There are many flavours of KVM's.
You'd probably want a 4 port KVM.
Some have USB ports for keyboard & mouse or just PS/2 or both.
Also some of the nicer KVM's come with audio ports if you only have one set of speakers.

task is in french tâche, meaning in my post: How many individual type of things/work, like reading, watching the TV, listening to the radio, keeping in touch with this forum...Can you handle at the same time. Well, I can't type and write on my tablet at the same time but I switch from one thing to another and watch 2 TVs while listening to the radio...
