I only ask because I'm wondering what people are thinking about what's been going on in the Spiderman series right now. What with the whole spiderman dieing thing and the new powers.
Spidey just died in the latest issue. I doubt it's permanent but it was certainly dramatic and rather graphic too (in terms of a non Marvel Knights title).
The story arc is called "The Other" and it's supposed to change the status quo of Spiderman forever. What's been happening is that spiderman has been blacking out, losing power, etc. Eventually after being wounded by a new villain he sought help with a doctor who informed spiderman that he had a terminal condition.
At the same time the only villain spiderman has never beaten, Morlun, came back. Morlun needs to feed on the souls of totemic heros like spiderman to survive. They fought and morlun won, in the process he plucked out spiderman's left eye and ate it.
Spidey ends up in the hospital where morlun shows up to finish the job. MaryJane saves spiderman at the last minute but Morlun snaps her arm almost in half and is about to kill her when "the spider" inside Peter awakens for one final strike. Peter leaps out of the bed, his one eye is completely red, and pins Morlun to the ground.
This is where we see the new powers.
Two long stingers come out of Peter's wrists (where the webs come from) and he drives them through each of Morlun's arms. Then Peter opens his mouth to reveal some sharp teeth. He then feeds on Morlun's head, completely draining his body.
After that he crawls into MJ's arms, and dies.
The whole thing was very well written.

It really is a great time to be into comics though. Both Marvel and DC have really been stepping it up in terms of story telling. It's rumored that DC's Identity Crisis arc is going to change the company forever. Apparently they're killing off the current superman and returning the old one to the line and rumor has it that Bruce Wayne will no longer be Batman either, as he will go rogue and get tossed into Arkyum ( a twist I totally love).
Then you have Marvel's House of M arc that has destroyed about 90% of the mutant characters in the universe.

When Marvel started making movies the booted up a new universe that sort of reinvisions it's classic characters, this was the "Ultimate" universe. The Ultimate universe has nothing to do with the "normal" universe (called the 612 universe I believe), aside from the fact that it uses the same characters but in a different way.ToxicBug wrote:Can someone explain me the difference between the Amazing Spiderman and Ultimate Spiderman? Is there a "normal" Spiderman comic?
Also, what about X-Men, the Uncanny X-Men and the Astonishing X-Men?
Amazing Spiderman is part of the "normal" universe. So is X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Astonishing X-Men. All of the books in the "normal" universe share the same continuity whereas the Ultimate books have their own continuity.

It's not the ultimate universe. And I have no doubt that spiderman will be back, as the titles have not been cancelled. The question is whether or not it will be Peter Parker who is coming back and how this change in the status quo will affect the rest of the marvelverse (ie: the avengers, whom spiderman is a part of).Mr.Magnetichead wrote:Super heroes die all the time. It's neverpermanent.
Also what Spiderman title is this? If it's Ultimate it might just be the man-spider storyarche.

I don't think they'll ever attempt a clone saga again. Not after last time.Jackal wrote:It's not the ultimate universe. He'll probably just molt or some shit and end up with wolvie style healing abilities.
Possibly. Whoever it is that comes back however is going to have a new uniform.
My bet is that Peter Parker is going to metaphorically "die", leaving only the spider. Spiderman has always been about the balance between Peter and Spiderman. After this I think they will focus more on Spiderman as a complete hero.
