[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

The only format which will play on all DVD players is MPEG-2. There are several programs to convert avi files to true DVD formats for burning. i.e. avi2dvd or tmpenc
http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html
Note that not all MPEG-2 files will even play. There are specific bitrates and resolutions which are meant for DVD. Other ones might not work depending on your player.
