Go HSBC!

Post by Ezekiel »

There is a serious flaw in debit card design when you have to ring the bank and report your card stolen just so that you can have a new one.

HSBC are big fans of their paper signature strips. I’m not – they scratch away over time to reveal the words void after a few months taking out your CV2 details with it. The result is a card that is impossible to use online unless you can guess your own number: from a total of six numbers I can make out one vaguely. It is an eight. Or a six. Perhaps it’s a nine.

Since this tiny little detail is required for all online transactions with almost any card, why is this information printed on something that rubs off after three months while the card itself has a lifespan of five years?

”Hello, HSBC 24hrs lost or stolen help line…”
“Hi. I’d like to cancel my card.”
“Did you loose it in a public place? In the street?”
“No. I just can’t make out any details bar the account number! Lets just say it was stolen and we’ll replace it…”

Boom goes my new vinyl. :icon33:

I will when it jams up the ATM - it is impossible to use the card without removing it, and it is the cash machine that is damaging it. :p

In its present form I have to give it a failing grade.
What I wanted was a card only type of wallet and I tried it but I would say a card case would be a better choice and there are nice ones on ebay with artwork that do the job without the hi-tech shit
The clip is crappy and loosened up immediately. It should grip much better. I found it coming off my belt easily, which is not something you want happening to your CCs and ID. It should also be inverted so you can pop a card out and put in without unclipping from your belt(my current project)
It is also worse for putting in your back pocket like a regular wallet as a result of its bulkand stiffness.
In short it should be redesigned to be no bigger than a credit card with the eject buttons on the side not on the top.

lol - you didn't really understand the problem tbh m8 - putting the card into an ATM rubs shit off because its a tight mechacnical slot - debit cards are also cash cards in this country - just imagine something as exotic as roads with bends and you'll be halfware there O_o

Most places use chip and pin, so you dont need it as such like you used to.

You know how they say you should diversify your investments? Well all I can say is prepare for the worse and don't depend on the stock market, your abm card, nor the title to your piece of dirt if all hell breaks loose.
One of the next computer viruses will take your middle class life insurance and the rich will have not a boohoo for you.

No, only my SIN because it crumbled 20 years ago and I can't be bothered to get a new one.
But I'm travelling in the US next year so I apparently will need a passport by then and might need to finally get one.

i have all the commonly requested numbers memorized. You fill out enough forms asking for the same shit over and over it just sticks. That is unless you're just sending the numbers from eyes to hand without a layover at the brain.

I have a feeling that explaining it to you will be a complete waste of time, but allow me to shed a little light on your otherwise blinkered point of view:

1. Swipe machines don’t exist as ATM’s outside banks here, and the use of chip and pin is limited to payment only.
2. Once the bank is shut the only way for you to get any money out is to use the ATM itself.
3. The card is pulled into the slot by the machine. In doing so, the mechanism rubs against the back of the card. After only mild usage the strip will rub away.
4. There is nothing you can do to stop this – the wear occurs very quickly just through using your debit card in the teller machines it is designed to be used in conjunction with to withdraw money outside of standard banking hours.
5. The same principle applies to the cash machines in bars and clubs.
6. Read number 4.

Scotch Tape

Toss a peice over that number on the back.. works fine..
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.
