It's basically a rule that if you're from Alberta you MUST be a conservative.

I'm not too worried about the country falling apart or anything. It just goes to show that the politicians in Canada are every bit as fucked in the head as anywhere else.

P.S. Harper is a cunt.

i'm pretty clueless about canadian politics, which is sad considering i live here, but why are people all saying that the alternatives to liberal and conservative suck?

what about the green party, for instance?

or are they excluded from the christmas elections?

Harper is indeed a cunt but most of the conservatives do not share a lot of his views. I'm completely undecided as to who I'll vote for.

harper will be toast after the next election i'm sure. mckay should take over as party leader and the conservatives may get somewhere.

i can't believe they left harper in this long, stupid cunts. makes me wonder who really is behind the conservatives.

Some of their views are fairly extreme but to be honest, I like their party. The problem is that not enough people share that view so voting for them just splits votes away from the primary 4 parties who have a chance at being elected IMO.

IMO they should ditch that wanker, weed the racists and extremists from their party, and tone down some of the more ultra right-wing policies that they have. I think it would give them a bit more credibility and maybe a good chance at getting elected.

yea but with that mentality, the greens will never take off.

It's a paradoxical affair of game theory.

I believe it's best to vote for the party you think is best, rather than make pragmatic choices. In the short run this may have consequences, but in the long run it may pay off greatly.

Jules, the laws would also need to be changed to relate the number of votes proportionally, nationally, to the number of seats for a party. This way the greens could potentially pick up a few seats.

That said, aside from their environmentally conscious image, I suspect they would ravage the Canadian economy if they ever managed to gain a majority government.

perhaps if they got more votes, there'd be more incentive for such reform to take place.

You have to admit though, the numbers last election were pretty lopsided. :icon26:

wich presents some of its own problems. do we want to be governed even more than we are by the people in southern ontario/quebec?

in our big, sparsely populated country our current scheme, with its faults, seems to be the best bet currently.
