Something about kickbacks and whatnot.
Canadians - will this have any substantial impacts on everday living (taxes, healthcare, etc..)?

i don't think anything will change. the government isn't really kicked out per se. they are just obliged to call an election after a non-confidence vote.
they will likely get back in power with another minority government and the only thing that will be different is the billion dollars less in the government coffers for election costs.
it's a long story anyways, goes back to pre 1995 concerning quebecs failed vote on sovereignty and the federal governments campaign to sway quebecers through ads and private ad firms.

Exactly. The scandal involved the previous Prime Minister but now the opposition party has forced a Christmas election on us. I'll vote Liberal purely out of disgust with the other parties and, with any luck, enough other Canadians will feel the same that the Liberals will get in with even more seats than they had since the last election. It would be a fitting irony for the opposition who is so eager to waste our tax dollars on an unnecessary election.</rant>shadd_ wrote:i don't think anything will change. the government isn't really kicked out per se. they are just obliged to call an election after a non-confidence vote.

Our other options are:Jackal wrote:The Liberals should not get voted in again.
1) The NDP who has driven the country into debt and generally made a bloody mess of things
2) The Bloc Quebecois who want Quebec to separate from the rest of Canada and are really only concerned with French Canadians
3) The Conservatives who have worse political idealogies than Bush's administration and whose members include open and unapologetic racists.
IMO the Liberals are the lesser of the evils.
Sad but true. I personally would go with the conservatives, but the christian right frightens me.
Its funny but a guy from Halifax is very pro Bloc, he wants all the provinces to gain more autonomy, and in alberta's case that would only be a winning situation imo.
Really though another Liberal focused government almost without doubt.

Exactly. I'm not a big fan of the Liberals either but they seem to be the best option right now.Massive Quasars wrote:They can, and will. Fuck Harper. I'm not pleased with the Liberals' performance, but I believe all alternatives are shittier.Jackal wrote:The Liberals should not get voted in again.

I wonder if the Governor-General is , instead of an election, considering asking Harper to form a governing coalition.Wizard .3 wrote:Canadian politics are handicapped right now. I don't see the upcoming election changing anything.
There is precedence for it.
