They were not shooting at everyone, but its unclear why they were shooting at all. Some of the cars were coming right at them, but nothing looked threatening to them from what I saw, however its only a clip of all the shootings. There was one car where they shot at it and it stops, then the driver gets out and they dont shoot him up or anything, so I dont know what's going on...

excerpt:
A "trophy" video appearing to show security guards in Baghdad randomly shooting Iraqi civilians has sparked two investigations after it was posted on the internet, the Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

The video has sparked concern that private security companies, which are not subject to any form of regulation either in Britain or in Iraq, could be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Iraqis.

Canis you're giving them more than simply the benefit of the doubt in this case. It's hard to see how context would explain away what's going on there.

I see a video of folks shooting, but not at everyone. I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt, but I dont know what its about. They're not shooting at everyone, so how (from the contents of that video) is anyone to know why they're shooting. I'm not excusing their actions, or putting any judgement or explanation out for their actions at all. Keeping it as such, I dont understand what's going on when they shoot at a car but dont keep shooting the driver when he gets out, or when they shoot at cars approaching them but not others (all in the context of the video). If this actually is a trophy video of random shootings then its disgusting and vile, but in that sense I'd expect them to be shooting up that driver, or shooting at all cars.

lol, there's this dumb myth floating around in britain that while US soldiers are crazy brutal fuckers, our boys are all decent upstanding lads who wouldn't dream of ruffling a single hair on an innocent head.

it's the same as that foreign policy fantasy where our govt acts as a 'moderating influence' on the crazy US govt

Basically, they're shooting at anyone that comes up behind them. Genius. :dork:
The fact that those assholes are allowed to operate over there at all is wrong on so many levels it's scary.

Marine tells of 'carte blanche' to kill

02/11/2005 - 6:21:46 PM

A former US marine has told a jury that he was given "carte blanche" to kill and was told to "shoot first and ask questions later" while serving in Iraq following the outbreak of war in 2003.

Jimmy Massey was giving evidence in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court trial of five antiwar protesters accused of criminal damage of a US aeroplane at Shannon Airport in February 2003.

Mr Massey was a platoon sergeant in the US Marines stationed in Kuwait in the lead up to the outbreak of the Iraq war and served there following the invasion until May 15, 2003.
...

Mr Massey told Mr Brendan Nix SC, defending Ms Fallon, that prior to invasion he was briefed of the terms of the Geneva Convention and rules of engagement. He said he was told that intelligence reports "painted every Iraqi as a potential terrorist".

In response to Mr Nix’s query as to what was their "firing policy". Mr Massey replied: "To shoot first and ask questions later. We were given carte blanche to kill."

Asked by counsel if this was in breach of the Geneva Convention, Mr Massey replied: "Yes sir".

Mr Nix: "Did it happen?" - "It did, many times. Over a three month period more than 30 innocent people were killed that I know of."

That was my first thought, but the original internet source of the video is actually a personal site run by an Aegis Defense Services operator. But even after finding that out, I wasn't able to figure out who set it to music and where the video came from to begin with.
