At least the bear had a chance to bite the hunter...
..but he still died. heh.

But I don't see why this should be news. If hunting is pure sport pitting man and his inherent capabilities against animals and their inherent capabilities, why should the fact that the animal gets his own shot in be a surprise?
The hunter's words:
"It was shock at first. It's like he came alive, like 'boom.' I guess he growled, like the other people heard. That motivated me to turn around and start running away," he said."
On a philosophical note, this is why I think calling hunting a 'sport' is a bit misnomer. What kind of sport has you turning around and running like hell when your opponent wakes up? Would 'hobby' be more appropriate? I'm not anti-hunting so long as people are at least eating what they kill, but I've never seen it as a sport in the competetive sense of the word (unless, I guess, you are competing against other hunters...)

Hunting is a sport to some people/communities/organizations; they turn it into a sport, where you compete against other people.
Hunting game for yourself isn't a sport though, at least IMO.
And of course the bear has a chance to bite back, otherwise it wouldn't be hunting at all. More like target practice, or poaching.
If you're bad enough at it that you get attacked, then let that be a lesson learned.
