i've had fruit of sharon once (also known as Persimmon) - first thing that i noticed is that they smell very much like sperm (at least my own sperm)

a bit of google research just now shows me i'm not alone, though i've only come across one obscure reference in a blog comment.

Uhhhh. Its just wrong to say you can find all of them in a standard euro grocery shop (some are quite uncommon in standard dutch grocery shops) referring at least to the israel fruit and samosas. Mebbe they are at all UK shops? I also asked an office-mate from Italy and he has not heard of fruit of sharon. He asked me if it means "going down". lol.

yes i quoted these because they are all available in a standard UK supermarket, though not all at all supermarkets. my assumption - clearly wrong - was that if a non-british food could be found in a UK supermarket it must be found in an ordinary continental one. obviously not

There are several chains of grocery stores that would carry all of those items, though they are the mid to upper-range stores.

Your average Safeway or Giant will have everything except fruit of sharon (unless there's a different name for it here and I don't know it). Going to a place like Wegmans will have all of it and in a dozen+ different varieties.

the oldest recipe of 'modernday' filet americain is from germany. the belgians renamed it to filet americain (for some reason), but the actual recipe was based on an ancient Mongolian recipe.

the high end grocery stores around here have pretty much all of that. (doubtful on the fruit, i don't know if arab fruit would travel this far)
There is a whole international section where the selection is so hardcore you need to know 14 languages to figure out what you're actually buying.
the crazy korean noodles, that are so hot after drinking the broth you can see god, are my favorite.
