College course seeks to debunk intelligent design
Proposed religion class labels creationism as 'mythology'
LAWRENCE, Kansas (AP) -- Creationism and intelligent design are going to be studied at the University of Kansas, but not in the way advocated by opponents of the theory of evolution.
A course being offered next semester by the university religious studies department is titled "Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and other Religious Mythologies."
"The KU faculty has had enough," said Paul Mirecki, department chairman.
"Creationism is mythology," Mirecki said. "Intelligent design is mythology. It's not science. They try to make it sound like science. It clearly is not."
And the definition of irony comes later from an ID advocate:
John Calvert, an attorney and managing director of the Intelligent Design Network in Johnson County, Kansas, said Mirecki will go down in history as a laughingstock.
I hadn't even heard about that. That's fantastic. I love how these school board members have taken it upon themselves, having no background or authority on the matter, to make the decision for grade schoolers. Meanwhile, the higher-ups are basically saying, "you people smoke crack."
Exactly. Most of these school board reps are just regular schmucks who decided to be active in the community because their kids are in public schools.
I don't understand how they translate that into some kind of mandate to bring truth to the world.
