What a great film. It totally captures the life of Johnny Cash. They believably bring him to the edge of his addiction without making it seem forced or "theatrical" (over the top) and his recovery is not cast as "heroic." Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon do as perfect job as anyone could ever do imitating two incredibly unique voices. I also liked how they put the Cashs' songs in the context of their lives instead of just dropping the popular hits in at random for the sake of putting music in it. The energy of the Folsom Prison scene made me want to be there.
I'd be interested to know if r00k went to see it because I think he's connected to the family in some way. I remember he posted pics a long time ago from a wedding or picnic or something that Johnny Cash was at.
I see old women didn't vote it very well on IMDB, probably because of the way June was portrayed (which would be a spoiler if I mentioned what that was).

Lol, yeah I've heard it. I actually like it. I do like a few of his comedic songs and that one.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage.flacscourge34 wrote:Not much of a Country fan. Not being a nitpicker, but how else would you classify his music?Dave wrote:If there's one thing Johnny Cash isn't, it's countryscourge34 wrote:Not much of a Country fan. But I'll watch it anyway. Not sure.. that's the tricky part. I just know it's not countryscourge34 wrote:Not being a nitpicker, but how else would you classify his music?Dave wrote:If there's one thing Johnny Cash isn't, it's countryscourge34 wrote:Not much of a Country fan. I would probably put him more in the group with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings type of music. Not quite standard country but close enough.Dave wrote:Not sure.. that's the tricky part. i defintely put him in a group with the two you mentioned as well as Hank Williams. They epitomize the height of country whereas most other country is unbearable. Great song writers and genuine American white roots music.scourge34 wrote:I would probably put him more in the group with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings type of music. If I were to listen to any country at all, it would be those I mentioned above. That's about the only style of country I can bear.HM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:i defintely put him in a group with the two you mentioned as well as Hank Williams. Yeah, I agree on Hank Williams and Waylon Jennings, but something about Johnny Cash makes me want to lump him more into "Americana" than a specific genre of music... He's the dark side of mom, baseball and apple pie.HM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:i defintely put him in a group with the two you mentioned as well as Hank Williams. Willie Nelson kind of straddles both categories like Cash
