Whenever I tried to download something from MS I would get a prompt to download GenuineCheck.exe. I would run it and then copy that code into the little text box and then download whatever I was after.

It's a load of bollocks anyway, if you've got a dodgy copy you just install it in IE and let it validate you, then when it fails you can just disable the Windows Genuine Advantage add-on and it just lets you download :olo:

I just installed the updates from the site not 5 minutes ago, no critical updates and 7 optional ones were available so I got those. I'll check now.

Still working right now, just getting the .NET service pack. Unless something pops up again after that then they've not fixed it.

Is this a good or bad thing? WGA needs to be destroyed.

well, it's a good thing that they're "letting" you use another browser, period.

No more critical updates it seems, so I think it still works.

The fact it sends off random things about your PC, which I don't like. Oh, and I do have a legal copy of windows.

What they really need to do is switch from ActiveX into a more secure / cross browser solution.

problem is MS, or XP rather, probably already has something buried that sends information out.

You know it only sends out a one-way hashed version of your product key which they compare against other hashed versions of known-good keys right? Theres nothing to get upset about as long as your OS is legit.
