It's good for drinking w/o food. I find sweet white wine is too sweet unless it's coupled with something else.

The secret to stuff like white wine is to just ask the girl you want to impress what kind she likes before you buy it. If you're buying it for yourself you're gay and should stick it up your asshole cause I'm sure you'll do it eventualy.

Cold white wine is great on a hot summer evening. I wouldn't drink it in a bar though, unless I was eating food that requires it or if I was sitting outside on a hot summer evening.

Before, during, after does it matter?

Sort of like you said, a man with a good eye for wine can be a nice thing for a woman to look for.

For some, wine goes straight to their head, with can be both a pro and a con. For me, i improve my game skills with wine :paranoid:

nope - puilly foume for rich / game based food - chardonnay for the ladies - otherwise dry red all the way - usually some sauvignon or other

in fairness this topic is rhetorical as pretty much all white wine is like the devils piss bottled as vinegar!!! (apart from the bottle of californian chardonnay I'm drinking now nof course!)

i almost exclusively drink red but when it's white, I prefer the two I've listed. I tend to agree with your attitude toward whites.

i did have an awesome late harvest vidal yesterday though, which was stunning

Word... Cabernet S. all the way. Red for the ladies, too. However, white is better if it's with dessert. I've got a nice Liebfraumilch and a pinot grigio I quite like.

this is quite nice...

if you're looking for an awesome tasting cheap wine look for Charamba (portugese) cheap and incredibly delicious.

personally cab sauvignon is not my favorite red although it's miles ahead of most whites

I don't care for white at all. Cabernet Sauvignons are the only ones I've had that I will even touch again, and that's only if there is nothing else available. If I'm eating game or seafood, I'll just have beer instead of a white.

I love a good red though. My favorite cost-effective red wine is Robert Mondavi Pinot. And yes, I was always a fan of pinot, before that shitty wine-snob movie drove everyone to empty my local stores of it. >:E

I like a good merlot as well, but my favorites are pinots more often.

there are some great chardonnays out there. i lean toward ones that aren't aged in oak (ie- pretending to be red). otherwise i've had good experiences with lighter bodied whites like pinot gri* or fume blanc (or sauvignon blanc, which is what i assume rook meant when he said cab)... especially for hot summer days. if you want to have some fun you can even get a sparkling wine like a prosecco or sekt (german). edit: i used to be a huge riesling fan, but too many rieslings taste like sugar-water to me now.

for reds i go bordeaux if i have money (damned expensive over here) or whatever looks interesting if i don't - washington pinot noirs, cabernet if it's not too tannic, a juicy zinfandel, tempranillo, chianti, a nice chewy syrah. whatever i'm in the mood for. pinot seems to match the widest variety of foods, but it can be pretty generic imo.

My tastebuds may be naive, but I have yet to find a wine that doesn't make me want to flip my cookies.

Clos du Bois Chardonnay is the only good white wine I can remember trying.
