Microsoft and Sony are all about the power of their consoles and integrating everything under the sun into it. Console gaming really needs a revolution. I've totally lost interest. In fact, I put both my XBox and PS2 up on Ebay today with all my games.
The Revolution should be pretty cool, but the lack of hi-def output is embarassing.
Call me fanboy, but I ask you... why? Only a small portion of consumers own a hi-def enabled television set:shrug: Also, if MS and Sony didn't have hi-def support, nothing would've been said about it. I also don't know what hi-def will actually add to a game, not much I reckon, especially not considering that Nintendo's main aim isn't the graphics at all. If you're slamming Revolution for not being "up to par" in the graphics area, then you've completely missed the point.

Though I'm not 100% sure, I remember reading that the Revolution might get hi-def support after all, but it's not a requirement.
not sure about your neck of the woods, but sales of hi-def sets in the US shows dramatic increases year after year. you know how Americans are, they have to stay caught up with the Jones's.

also, once they release the Revolution (mid-2006?) you probably won't see another Nintendo console until maybe 2009? how many households will have hi def sets in that time?

sony and micrsoft are prepared for the future in this regard, Nintendo is not.

it is. it was my reason for getting a 360. gues i'll just have to wait :)
Yeah, it's the only reason I was considering a 360 too.... that and the fact that the DVD drive in my xbox is getting worn out (from too much morrowind, mostly)

But then again, who in his right mind would buy one now for $399 for the hard drive package when you can just wait till mid-2006, when more good games are going to be out and the thing will prolly cost $299 or even $249.99 if Sony hurries the hell up with the PS3. Too much money on some people's hands is why me thinks.
:dork:
i don't disagree with kingmanultra. its not even about being able to afford the machine.

of course i haven't played all the Xbox360 games extensively and reviewed them, but from what I've read, nothing is particularly great or amazing. Kameo and PDZ seem to be frontrunners, but nothing terribly special.

the fact of the matter is that there are far better games already out on current systems that many people dont play and havent even tried. people are wowed by shiny things, even if in reality those things arent up to snuff.

"OMG its new, i gots to get it!"

usually i'm not one to be too annoyed about things. afterall, people should get what they like. my problem with the whole thing comes with the push for flash over substance. the way i see it there are games with flash and substance that are very rare. then there are games that have substance. then games that are flashy. then games that have got nothing.

the annoying part is that people have this odd mentality where they choose flash over substance. and what happens? developers and teams that really try to come out with some good shit get screwed over because they concentrated on creating gameplay (or substance) over shiny silver packaging. has anyone seen video game sale numbers recently? holy cow. its not even about money. people are just noobs. instead of buying an xbox360 now when its so expensive or buying the latest shit that EA puts out, why not get GGXX and learn to play a real game?

anyway, the whole idea is similarly true in the music industry and movie industry. there are tons of really good independent labels and others that never get looked at because the mainstream is too full of slags that can't take a step back and really discern things carefully. the bad part is that video games are starting to go this route as well.

i dont think buying a x360 in the long run is a bad idea. i support kingman's idea: wait until some good games come out and get it then (besides it will be cheaper then).

me personally i only (relatively) recently got a gamecube and xbox. i play my dreamcast and GBA games on my DS the most.

chup is right, MS is releasing the 360 way too early. if sony were to release the ps3 next month, that would be good timing -ps2 really is at the end of its cycle - but the xbox isnt at all, it has at least a year of games left in it.
by releasing the xbox360 theyre kinda killing the xbox, and since the 360 doestn have full backwards compatibility there really isnt any reason for getting it so soon.. well apart from oblivion but that got delayed :(

Yes, games has become mainstream popular culture. It's dumbed down for the masses. It's unfortunate, but it's what happens when something becomes popular.
